My husband and I are thinking of taking the "cruise to nowhere" in February. Looks like a fun little getaway. They leave on Friday and return on Saturday morning. Has anyone every done this?

I'm going on the Gem one this Friday. I've done a 2 day one on the Jewel. They are a nice quick getaway and also a way to get a cruise fix in lol :p

There are a few things to be aware of on a CTN:

1) There is no luggage handling getting off the ship. Not a problem if you do a one night and are able bodied. Our CTN was the middle of a B2B2B and DH is disabled = BIG PROBLEM!!

2) The ship is a madhouse compared with a 7 day cruise. Everyone wants to get their money's worth and the halls and venues are very busy!

3) It is very short unless you plan on staying up all night. By the time you get your cabin, do the muster drill and sail away, it's 5 pm.

Knowing all that, go, have fun and enjoy a night away from it all!

We have done quite a few, and are booked on more.

As someone said, it's a fun weekend (or 1 day/night) getaway!

BUT that is because we live an hour from the NYC pier. I wouldn't drive far for a 1 nighter.

We live about 2.5 hrs from pier. We are doing one in March on the Gem. I told my DH we "needed" to so I could keep my casino points from expiring!! Lol. It worked!!

We booked it for February...so excited! We will just do a carry on as its literally just the one night. No reason to go crazy packing. Pajamas and a change of clothes.

For those of you that have done a cruise to nowhere...entertainment wise is it the same? I checked the entertainment and I see they have 2nd City and that is one of our favorites so we are looking forward to that.

Pricewise...well we figure that if we stayed overnight in a hotel, went to lunch and dinner that day, breakfast the next morning and had drinks and saw a show we would spend the same amount so it seems comparable. We are about 3 hours from the pier but it really isn't so far that we won't have a blast.

This is exactly our thought process when we booked for my birthday weekend- staying in Manhattan and having dinner for two nights would be roughly equivalent to our 2-night CTN, especially since ours is Superbowl weekend, so hotel prices are likely to be insane since the Superbowl is at Giants Stadium! I can't wait!

You will see the NCL Getaway as Budweiser has rented it has a hotel for the Superbowl along with the Intrepid Air and Space Museum.

I did a CTN on the Gem and it was great, used the cabin as a comfort station basically, might have turned in around 3/4 AM. We did not have a muster drill because we were on board less then 24 hours. They did have a muster announcement where they stopped selling booze for the length of the announcement. That might have changed with all the accidents etc.

If the price is right I would do it again. I watched the prices online and got an inside for $79 but you have to remember the tax which in NYC is around $100 per person.

Gem is doing one this Friday and then December 13th out of NYC.

My girlfriend and I are going that same weekend as well, at least that is 2 nights. I am hoping to see as many shows as we can......and take full advantage of our spa stateroom

We got a comp 1 nighter and the total for the fees were $183.14 for 2. So you are spot on about the taxes!!

I've been watching a 2 day cruise to nowhere that leaves out of New Orleans this Friday. The price is still holding at $249pp, and there are plenty of rooms left. They are currently running 7 day cruises from NOLA for the same price, so I was hoping the price of the 2 day would drop. I've never been on NCL, so I was just wondering about other's experiences in booking these last minute short cruises and where to get the best price. Thanks!!

Are you talking about the one nighter on GEM? I did that last weekend and here's my review link. Also there are some 2-nighters on the Breakaway in Jan/Feb.

There are a couple other reviews of it too if you do a search.

I was on this past weekend's 2 night CTN on Dawn (posted a short review which you should be able to find). Loved it - but wouldn't do a 1-night CTN. As someone else said, you are on the ship a little more than 12 hours. Not enough time to de-stress.

Since embarkation starts at noon and debarkation is as late as 10:00 am Time on board can be as long as 22 hours. I'm only a 45 minute train ride away. So for me its a quick getaway as opposed to driving to AC for the night.

Go for it!! Enjoy your cruise!! It will be wonderful - they all are.

Thanks for the mini review!

I saw the Nov sailing down to $39pp for interior [pre-taxes] at one point and was considering booking the Dec 13th sailing if it goes that low. It would be about $130pp after taxes are figured in and I thought it would make a great weekend getaway with some shopping time in NYC the next afternoon.

I have never done a 1 nighter [or a CTN in general] though and am worried about whether or not I would enjoy it. I love the sea and the overall atmosphere of being on a ship but do you really think these short CTNs are worth it? It is not a huge amount of money but I don't want to feel like I am wasting it. Has anyone else who has done a CTN felt like it was waste or is it usually a good time?

I have done two 2-night CTNs out of Tampa and enjoyed both. We didn't have to fly (live 20 minute from the port) which makes it really inexpensive. I would have a hard time convincing myself that a 1-night CTN would be worth it. Simple too short.

I saw that it dropped again. Obviously I've been watching it for awhile, lol! :p

I planned on booking when it dropped, but then carnival had a sale last week that I just couldn't pass up. $350 for a balcony on the 7 day Dream. I doubt I will do the 2 day Norwegian now...
