lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #751 Share Posted July 31, 2014 After that, we headed to the theatre to watch tonight’s show. It was a comedy juggler named Goronwy Thom! I hadn’t realized anything until this man appeared on stage! He was actually SO hilarious. When he came out on stage, I kind of squinted and thought, “Hey… doesn’t that guy look like the dad of the baby I played with on the shuttle? … Nah!” That was until halfway through the show, his baby suddenly yelled out, “Daddy!!!” ^^ Everyone laughed, it was so cute. It was then that I was like, “it IS him!!” :D After we thoroughly enjoyed the show (wow did I laugh hard), we headed up to the Lido to look for a late night snack: Every night, there was a different themed buffet! Tonight was German.
lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #752 Share Posted July 31, 2014 After eating a bit and this and that, we got sleepy and retired to our staterooms. Before sleeping, I took a snap of tonight’s dress! (Yeah, so I hadn’t noticed until just now, but Sis’s face was poking out right there in the corner -_- so this is what she gets for doing that LOL): I also took a look at the spa handout we received upon returning onto the ship: I then proceeded to read my daily newspaper before drifting off to sleep:
lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #753 Share Posted July 31, 2014 Notes of the day: -Sea Bass on Cunard doesn’t taste like sea bass even after a second attempt. - Don’t drink your water too fast because it’s not going to get refilled LOL (Probably just our servers though) ;) End of Day
PSR Posted July 31, 2014 #754 Share Posted July 31, 2014 The face I saw in the post #730 was on the far wall, on the stone behind the black and white framed photo. It is behind the right top corner. Anyone else see this, or is it just too late and I am a little sleepy... I also saw a kind of face in the triangular stone in the forefront of the photo. lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #756 Share Posted July 31, 2014 Day 9: Rhodes, Greece Sunday, November 17, 2013 : Formal We awoke relatively early in the day (perhaps not as early as the day before, but nonetheless early). I first took a look at my Daily Programme:
lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #757 Share Posted July 31, 2014 After that, we all met up and went up to the Lido to eat breakfast. I first had a smoothie of the day, Apricot, Pineapple & Apple:
lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #758 Share Posted July 31, 2014 I then ate a relatively big breakfast! Then, here was what Sis ate: What Mom ate: And what Dad ate:
lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #759 Share Posted July 31, 2014 After breakfast we all headed out! We took the stairs down to deck A and made our way down the gangway. When emerged from the ship to see some incredibly lovely weather. It was sunny, but there was a breeze (: As we followed the direction of the map, our plan was to walk along Commercial Harbour, cut into the main city area, explore a little and keep moving north to Mandraki Harbour. Mandraki Harbour is the place that is believed to have been the location of one of the 7 Wonder of the Ancient World, the Colossus of Rhodes. As we approached Commercial Harbour, we fended off a lot a tour guide vultures (at least, Mom & Dad did LOL. They ignored Sis & I). The setup felt a little unsafe, as this orange mesh fence was all that was separating the cars driving by and the people walking along the shoulder of the road. The fence itself was dangerous too; it was a whole bunch of long metal rods jammed into the floor. Some of these rods weren’t even stably inserted into the ground, and therefore would slant in all sorts of directions. If you are not careful, you could really get your eye poked out if you don’t pay attention!!
lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #760 Share Posted July 31, 2014 When we got to a certain point, there was this little hole cut out in the orange mesh fence. That was supposed to indicate, “Here. You can cross the road to go into here”. Make sure it’s safe before crossing the road!! The metal rods are sticking out everywhere and the cars drive really fast! I believe we ended up crossing the street because we decided that we might as well go through the city as we made our way north. I took a few photos of the ship before carrying on: Although, I think we actually crossed the street at a later time because we didn’t want to cut into the city while we were still so far south. The entryway I took a picture of actually led south, which we didn’t want. Anyhow, this is the place in which we entered the city:
lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #761 Share Posted July 31, 2014 Apparently Rhodes was a preserved historical city with the help of UNESCO:
lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #762 Share Posted July 31, 2014 We walked through the city until we reached a point that was just castle again. By this time, the sun was really baking us.
lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #763 Share Posted July 31, 2014 After walking for some time, we came across this pretty little castle. We took several pictures and I found this little hole in the wall: I kind of stuck my head and camera through the hole and found this magnificent view:
lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #764 Share Posted July 31, 2014 After that, we kept on exploring: It had turned out that the castle we had discovered was actually the Gate of St. Paul.
lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #765 Share Posted July 31, 2014 I even managed to capture this beauty: We then finally reached the pier area and began walking along Mandraki Harbour: It was full of these luxurious yachts:
lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #766 Share Posted July 31, 2014 We also passed by this cute little dome: Those 2 pillars apparently mark the places of where the Colossus of Rhodes stood (its feet). We passed by this little church that we would go check out later. The Colossus of Rhodes was supposedly a giant statue made of copper
lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #767 Share Posted July 31, 2014 That looked something like this (with feet on 2 sides): Or this (with feet on 1 side):
lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #768 Share Posted July 31, 2014 We took many, many pictures :D After we were done with that, we went into the little church to check it out. It was painted quite interestingly. After that, we headed back outside.
lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #769 Share Posted July 31, 2014 We proceeded to walk along the opposite side of the street from which we came. We were now on our way to check out more of the other castles and whatnot. We first took the wrong street and got a bit lost. We almost went into this little hole: But a vicious looking dog popped out of nowhere, looking extremely defensive, as if trying to protect its territory. My dad looked at us and asked us what we wanted to do. We decided not to challenge the angry looking dog and go another way. We instead, climbed some stairs to get above it! It had turned out that this was actually the right pathway! We passed through the Liberty Gate:
lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #770 Share Posted July 31, 2014 And found the ruins of the Temple of Aphrodite! We appeared to have entered some little square.
lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #771 Share Posted July 31, 2014 We checked out little souvenirs shops when we saw them. We then proceeded to explore even deeper into the city. While exploring, we noticed a surprisingly high amount of cats everywhere.
lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #772 Share Posted July 31, 2014 (As you can probably tell, I like taking pictures of pretty alleyways :D) We followed this uphill path all the way to the top (we were looking for the Castle of Grand Masters) We came to this spot that split into 2 directions. We decided to take the right side first before coming back to this spot later.
lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #773 Share Posted July 31, 2014 It had turned out, we had chosen correctly! Here we were at the Castle of Grand Masters! It was apparently converted into a museum that required an entry fee.
lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #774 Share Posted July 31, 2014 After discussing it at length, we ultimately decided against it. We then headed back to where the road split and checked out the building that was under construction there. Here, this’ll give a better picture of what we did: We were apparently walking the Street of the Knights.
lovely_serenity Posted July 31, 2014 Author #775 Share Posted July 31, 2014 One last look back: After buying some souvenirs such as olive oil soap and Greek candy for family and friends back home, we kept walking until we reached the city centre once again. (another alleyway :D)
