dh01498 Posted July 14, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 14, 2005 We sailed last Oct 18th thru the 25th and the weather was wonderful. Not a sign of any hurricane.
urbancruiser Posted July 14, 2005 #3 Share Posted July 14, 2005 We sailed on the Grandeur last October from Baltimore - the Caribbean was delightful but the trip from Freeport to Baltimore was very very rough and there was no hurricane. If you sail from a southern port, you should be fine. Hurricanes can happen anytime from June to November - the cruise lines do a great job of avoiding them! Your itinerary may change if there is a hurricane but as long as you are flexible, all is well. Mary Ann
decruisers Posted July 14, 2005 #4 Share Posted July 14, 2005 Always sail late Oct thru early Nov. For the most part, the weather is perfect. Only 1 tropical storm....maybe mother nature...or the fact that I got married...ummm:confused: ;)
hstrybuf Posted July 14, 2005 #5 Share Posted July 14, 2005 Our Navigator cruise last year was at the end of October/first of November. Other than some rainshowers in Cozumel, we had pretty good weather. The prices were definitely lower at that time of year. Hurricane season doesn't "officially" end until the end of November, but we had no problems at all.
NCTarheelsCruiser Posted July 14, 2005 #6 Share Posted July 14, 2005 Has anyone anyone every taken a cruise in October. The prices seem low or would we end up seeing a hurricane???? Hurricane Season does run from June through November, however your chances of running into one in October are significantly less than the busiest months of hurricane season which are July-September. As someone mentioned, the biggest problem would be if one of your scheduled ports was visited by a hurricane in the month or two preceding your trip and did enough damage to keep you from visiting the port. I would not hesitate to cruise in October, and actually am already booked for next October on the Freedom. Go, book travel insurance, and relax and have a good time! dfgf Posted July 14, 2005 #7 Share Posted July 14, 2005 Was on the Mariner the last week of Sept/ first week of Oct last year. The good: the seas were very calm - you couldn't even tell when you were moving and when you were docked. The bad: we missed THREE out of our four ports because of hurricanes previously hitting them (Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Labadee) and missed 2 days of our cruise because of a hurrican hitting Florida. It was terrible.
KSTAZMAN Posted July 14, 2005 #8 Share Posted July 14, 2005 Just wanted to say that you will not see a hurricane. We spent 2 extra days last year doing a circle just north of Cuba until hurricane Jeanne decided to get out of our way.We had sunshine most of that time. The good side was that we got 2 extra days. The bad side was they ran out of salad makings.:D But there was still plenty of makings for green apple martinis.
cpa2be Posted July 14, 2005 #9 Share Posted July 14, 2005 We celebrate our anniversary with a cruise in mid-October every year. We wouldn't change a thing. We've experienced Tropical Depressions, but no hurricanes. The weather was a bit windy on the highest decks at times and the boat rocked a bit more than normal. But I thought it was great fun!! We've missed Grand Cayman twice due to the weather, but it has NEVER spoiled or dampened our cruise. Reading all of the posts from last year's hurricane season just reinforces the fact the RCCL will do everything in their power to keep their patrons safe during bad weather. I would recommend travel insurance along with flying in a day ahead of schedule. Last year, flights were cancelled, ships rerouted to other ports and cruises shortened or extended. Know that these possibilities exist and pack your patience. Once your on the ship with a fru-fru drink in hand, any aggravation melts away... ahhhhhhhh!!! truffles2 Posted July 14, 2005 #10 Share Posted July 14, 2005 We ran from Hurricane Isidore in October a few years ago. Exciting.
cmason Posted July 14, 2005 #11 Share Posted July 14, 2005 The prices are not low because of hurricanes, they are low because of demand. summer months and holidays are in the most demand because folks have time off then, so the prices are higher. Other months are lower due to the need to book the ship. These cruises you will see frequent price adjustments as the date nears. October is a great time to sail. Hurricanes are not a real issue. Get the insurance so you sleep better at night, but otherwise enjoy your bargain.
cruzzers Posted July 14, 2005 #12 Share Posted July 14, 2005 You should be fine so go and enjoy and let the captain do the work. If there is a hurricane, there will be a bunch of us out there blowing around with you!
LonW Posted July 14, 2005 #13 Share Posted July 14, 2005 We always cruise in October!:D
rfische1 Posted July 14, 2005 #14 Share Posted July 14, 2005 Two cruises sailed in mid October and a third booked. Seas were very calm and weather beautiful except for pop up thunderstorms in ports. Like mentioned earlier, we missed Grand Cayman because of Hurricane Ivan damage in September. I do like the rates.
digital_curator Posted July 14, 2005 #15 Share Posted July 14, 2005 We are looking at the 9 day cruises out of Bayonne and would like to go at the end of September. However, how cold is it before the Caribbean:confused: There are 2 sea days before our first Caribbean port- would we be stuck inside for both of them? Thanks for any advice. Cheers,
lovemylab Posted July 14, 2005 #16 Share Posted July 14, 2005 We are sailing end of October and I am not worried at all by a hurricane. Our travel agent told us that she has yet to book a late October cruise where her clients ran into hurricane problems.
