La Reserve Menus

Dan and Don do have a point - there are a lot of wine snobs that can't tell the difference. They just buy the labels. And it can be fun to mess with them. It is also clear that price (and fads, fashion and pretty labels) do not necessarily indicate quality in wine.

There are, however, some people who can tell the difference in quality and can appreciate the art of pairing food with wine. While I own a few $70 to 100 wines I spend a lot of effort looking for the good value wines such as Dan describes. There was a time when, a quality wine could be found for $10. That has become rare and we now find $15-20 is needed to get a decent table wine. Every time we find a good value lots of other people do the same and the winery raises the price:(. You have to keep looking.

We have only eaten in La Reserve once. The food was great and most of the wine pairings were very good. A couple of the wines were just so-so and one was spectacular. And that's the way it goes with wine and wine pairing. Taste is pretty individual. And, by the way, that Chardonnay isn't all that good warmed up. They probably knew what they were doing when the served it ice cold.

Bottom line - drink what you like - pay whatever you are comfortable with.
