jkgourmet Posted December 20, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 20, 2013 Having decided at the last minute to book the Jan 8th 21 night departure of the Jade Med/Greece cruise, I'm in a serious rush to get myself organized. Hopefully, you'll forgive me for asking a few questions here instead of googling around for the answers. 1. Does the Jade have a lending library that I can access for books? 2. Is smoking allowed in the casino? (please say no) 3. Best places to sit indoors on bad weather or sea days to watch the scenery, preferably with a nearby bar? 4. Is it true that we absolutely DO NOT NEED formal wear? 5. Are there any self-service laundry facilities? If not, any idea what laundry is going to cost us? (We don't check luggage, so only one carry on bag a piece for a 21 day cruise!) 6. Your favorite restaurant and why?
mikewrit Posted December 20, 2013 #2 Share Posted December 20, 2013 1. Jade has a better than average library. Many books in European languages. The donation swap books were fairly numerous on our two Jade trips. 2. Don't use the casino and don't remember whether Jade's is particularly smoke-saturated. 3. Spinnaker Lounge on Jade is terrific. 4. We enjoy formal wear but were in the minority on Jade. 5. No self-service laundry, but the bargain bag deal is dandy. 6. We prefer the aft main dining room. Plentiful selection each day, good service, not much waiting unless you have to dine in time to get to the first show in the main theater. Many fellow cruisers will think you are crazy for packing so light. We think you are brilliant. y.

karoo Posted December 21, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 21, 2013 Having decided at the last minute to book the Jan 8th 21 night departure of the Jade Med/Greece cruise, I'm in a serious rush to get myself organised I'm on the 8th-18th sailing, however I'm doing the first 11 days starting 28th Dec Does the Jade have a lending library that I can access for books? Yes, I've seen it, but never visited. I usually load a few books onto my IPad. 2. Is smoking allowed in the casino? (please say no) Yes-I love cruising with NCL, but unfortunately their smoking policy is too liberal. Passengers are also allowed to smoke on their balconies as well. Consequently the casino is one place I avoid. 3. Best places to sit indoors on bad weather or sea days to watch the scenery, preferably with a nearby bar? I love Spinnaker- great views out to sea. (Front and side views) There is a bar in Spinnakers. 4. Is it true that we absolutely DO NOT NEED formal wear? No- they have a 'dress up or not night' - possibly two on this sailing. One MDR you aren't allowed shorts, singlet and thongs, the other you can wear what you want. 5. Are there any self-service laundry facilities? If not, any idea what laundry is going to cost us? (We don't check luggage, so only one carry on bag a piece for a 21 day cruise!) No- but they have a deal where whatever you can fit in the laundry bag gets washed for a set price. Keep reading your daily newsletter(Freestyle Daily) for when the deal is on. 6. Your favorite restaurant and why? Out of the free restaurants I like the buffet for breakfast and lunch, plenty of variety and you can help yourself. For dinner I usually go to the Main Dining Room because I enjoy having being served for dinner. One is more formal than the other. Last year though we usually ended up at Alizars, the less formal of the two because we met in Tankards each night pre-dinner and Alizars was the closest. For the fee restaurants I like Le Bistro the best. I usually have the duck for entree and crime brûlée for dessert. I vary the appetiser, although I never order escargot. I always enjoy my meal there. Last year the CD -Gary Glading, usually sang French songs in there one night too. French food is one of my favourite cuisines. meltingmoments Posted December 21, 2013 #6 Share Posted December 21, 2013 Having decided at the last minute to book the Jan 8th 21 night departure of the Jade Med/Greece cruise, I'm in a serious rush to get myself organized. Hopefully, you'll forgive me for asking a few questions here instead of googling around for the answers. 1. Does the Jade have a lending library that I can access for books? Yes, she does.....lots of books available and plenty of people taking advantage on our trip this August :) 2. Is smoking allowed in the casino? (please say no) I'm afraid the answer is yes, but I'm sensitive to smoke and we spent a fair amount of time in the Casino ( :o ) and I wasn't bothered by the smoke. 3. Best places to sit indoors on bad weather or sea days to watch the scenery, preferably with a nearby bar? Agree with others about the Spinnaker lounge......gorgeous views! 4. Is it true that we absolutely DO NOT NEED formal wear? NCL has * Dress up or Not Night*.....I LOVE to dress up....it's Freestyle....do it your way! :) 5. Are there any self-service laundry facilities? If not, any idea what laundry is going to cost us? (We don't check luggage, so only one carry on bag a piece for a 21 day cruise!) Laundry deals are available and seemed good value! I'm an over-packer.....I'm so envious you travel that light for such a long cruise! ;) 6. Your favorite restaurant and why? Fave restaurant? Moderno.....so much choice and the salad bar was fab! :) Enjoy your cruise! :)
