Hiring a taxi to do Harrison's Caves, Bathsheba?

We are on a very port intensive cruise and aren't fully sure if we want to commit to booking a tour for when we arrive in Barbados. Alternatively, we are thinking that hiring a taxi and trying to wing it might be the best thing to do.

We've seen the posts by Barbados where if we move past the taxi's at the pier, there are more taxi's with more reasonable rates. So if the two of us want to do Harrison's Caves and Bathsheba does anyone have any idea of what would be the approximate taxi cost? Would a driver be willing to wait for us at the caves?

And how long do you think it would take for us to do both attractions?

Any insight would be appreciated!! :D

This seems to be the one port where I can't get myself organized!!!

Winging it at Barbados

or any of the ports Carnival Valor stops at

is v.easy in the "Southern" Caribbean islands.

Taxis aplenty await your business at any and every port in the island chain.

Yes, get yourselves outside the Bridgetown Port's gatehouse

and make contact with any of the taxi drivers waiting for you.

The price they quote you will be in Barbados Dollars, which will sound like a lot

- the Bds.Dollar number-figure will be double what the U.S.Dollar currency equivalent is.

Currency conversion rate is 2:1

i.e. U.S.$ 100 = Bds. $ 200. Be aware of this!

So if he quotes you (example only!) "120 Dollars"

that is not U.S.Dollars, but he's hoping you'll be sucker enough to think it IS, and go for it!

Many fall for this old trick!

Know what currency you are both discussing!

Don't be a dumb tourist and get suckered, OK? ;)

I cannot give you an accurate idea of what the cost will be

thus my example only quote above

but if you can get two or three couples together with you

the price per person may come down.

Fill a ten-seater van and you'll get a good rate! ;)

Yes he will wait for you at Harrison's Caves: you'll be paying for him to wait, anyhow.

If he leaves you there, in the middle of nowhere,kinda..

you'll have some difficulty getting another taxi back out of there

............................

And then it'll be onward to Bathsheba, since you'll be halfway there.

The Caves are slap-bang in the middle of the island.

Yes you can do both in a day-tour.

You may want to have lunch at Round House in Bathsheba

or at more pricey Atlantis in Tent Bay right "next door" to Bathsheba.

Take your camera, our East Coast is rather scenic! :)
