musicmommy23 Posted December 24, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 24, 2013 Does anyone know which river cruise companies allow sufficient time to bike along the Danube during the cruise? Thanks!
UKBayern Posted December 24, 2013 #2 Share Posted December 24, 2013 Avalon Waterways offers suggestions on its website. There are actually specialised companies who offer cruise-and-bike holidays along all the major rivers, where you get a rental bike (or take your own) and cycle between ports, where the ship is then waiting for you again. It is very popular here, also the Rhine from Amsterdam to Cologne. Cannot help you with the specifics, but if you Google I am sure you find plenty of ideas. alexandra cruiser Posted December 25, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 25, 2013 and brochure says "assisted" bikes ,guess with motor backup? Did go on reg.bikes on AMA,as Rachael says.Nice, but seems to go sort of slowly if you have bikers that lag behind. Can go off on own,but afraid we d get lost in some places.;)
Rare RachelG Posted December 25, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 25, 2013 We just stuck to the paths by the river mostly. Can't get lost there.
bobalink Posted December 26, 2013 #6 Share Posted December 26, 2013 My DH and I went on the bike excursion from Durnstein to Melk. It was awesome! The scenery was magical, riding through vineyards, apricot tree orchards, sunflowers, etc. all along the Danube. It was a little difficult a few times, but manageable. I had not been on a bike for years and I did fine. There is a lead guide and a "sweeper" at the end to make sure everyone in between are accounted for. My only criticism of that tour was that we did not get enough stops to take photos. I did write that on the Survey at the end of the cruise, so maybe they will make changes. If you are reasonably fit, I say go for it. I will always remember that day. Have fun!
mimk3 Posted January 23, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 23, 2014 Going on a Scenic Cruise in May and would love to do the Durnstein/Melk bike trip. How in shape does one have to be to do this?;)
