RogueMonk Posted December 29, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 29, 2013 I'm wondering if its possible to limit the amount per day (or total per trip) for my children on their Sail & Sign? Basically we are giving them an allowance and want to set a total they can spend on the cruise. Is that possible? Thanks!
DobberDog Posted December 29, 2013 #2 Share Posted December 29, 2013 yep. we have done this the last 2 cruises with our kids and will be doing it again this next cruise. You can do it at the guest services desk or one of the kiosks. Its super easy to do on the kiosks which is the quickest way to do it (instead of standing in lines when you first get on the ship)
Catrin Posted December 29, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 29, 2013 This worked out great for us on the last few cruises. Just tell them exactly how you want things budgeted. We let our son charge up to $50.00 total. When it was gone, it was gone. We were surprised when at the end of the week, he only charged $24.00! vwrestler171 Posted December 30, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 30, 2013 You can do it while filing out your check-in information online.
Colorado Kat Posted December 30, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 30, 2013 I always just told my kids what they were allowed to spend for the week. Of course, they were older - teenagers.
OCruisers Posted December 30, 2013 #6 Share Posted December 30, 2013 I always just told my kids what they were allowed to spend for the week. Of course, they were older - teenagers. Always worked for us too. No need to set limits ... just told them. LuLu ~~~~
RogueMonk Posted December 30, 2013 Author #7 Share Posted December 30, 2013 Yes, you are probably right. I'm just overthinking it. I'll probably just leave it alone, and check periodically.
crusinfamof4 Posted December 30, 2013 #8 Share Posted December 30, 2013 We do it at check in, when we first get our sail and sign. We usually allow the boys $35 per day, the youngest-14, will spend it all and then some, we replinish his amount usually by the 3rd day. Our oldest-17, barely spends anything so it works out to be the same by the time it's all said and done.
SmittyCo Posted December 30, 2013 #9 Share Posted December 30, 2013 What would kids need to charge???
jlindemer Posted December 30, 2013 #10 Share Posted December 30, 2013 We gave the kids a small amount. $5 per day. Our kids were 11 & 9 at the time. They were able to get a smoothie or play in the arcade. And, they felt special paying for their own things.
ccruisequeen Posted December 30, 2013 #11 Share Posted December 30, 2013 What would kids need to charge??? Video games, sodas, snacks at the cafe, souvenirs and candy, candy in the candy, flowers, and tux rental shop (whatever they are calling it now)
nzdisneymom Posted December 30, 2013 #12 Share Posted December 30, 2013 OP, you can tell your kids their budget and also limit their accounts - easy enough to do as others have described at the kiosk, and you can check there easily, too, to see how much they have left. You can set a limit and then later in the week change it - so if for example, you allow $50 for the week, you might limit to $25 at the beginning and then a few days later up it to the $50 so they don't "blow" the whole $50 on the first two days. We heard stories of exorbitant arcade bills because the tweenager didn't understand how much the games were costing. Also repeat cruisers get a VIFP ticket for a free drink including children - so they can "cash" that ticket for a smoothie or non-alcoholic version of a drink such as a frozen daiquiri. We were on the Dream last week and ours said to use it at breakfast, lunch or brunch, but we found we could also use it at the Dream Lobby Bar at any time - there may be a similar location / situation on other ships??? karinvt Posted December 30, 2013 #13 Share Posted December 30, 2013 Remember though if you haven't prepaid your tips on day three they will be added and it will come out of their limit. We always set a limit for the kids. They have their own money and buy what they want but it stops them from going over.
