Quebec City -- What To Do For a Day

We are planning to have a full day before we board our ship in late October 2014. We are staying at the Hilton and have never been to Quebec before and welcome suggestions on what we "must do and see".

You can easily spend a day just walking around the old city and a visit to the Citadel.

We did a walking tour of the city with Tours Voir Québec. They are located in the tourist information office. It was a great walking tour and we saw lots we wouldn't have seen wondering around on our own.

 

If I was doing Quebec city again, I'd skip the changing of the guards at the Citadel, but I wish we could have toured it. The tours are only offered when the changing of the guards isn't on.

I agree that you can easily spend a day just wandering around. There is no need to go outside the city, but if you wish to and have time, you can rent a car and go to Ste. Anne de Beaupre and Montmorency Falls and/or drive around Ile d'Orleans.

I'd either go for a tour, and there are several options at the Tourist Information Center, or just walk around town. My best advice is to plan to do a bit of both Upper and Lower Town and take the Funicular at least once. The views are well worth it.
