LewesBeach Posted February 15, 2014 #51 Share Posted February 15, 2014 Does anyone else think that these & other cancellations are the ripple effect of Venice closing its port to ships over 96,000 tons starting Jan 2015?
IECalCruiser Posted February 15, 2014 #52 Share Posted February 15, 2014 Does anyone else think that these & other cancellations are the ripple effect of Venice closing its port to ships over 96,000 tons starting Jan 2015?That does appear to be the reason for the "swap" of the Island and Ruby for the Summer 2015. The Ruby really needs to start her 49 day SA cruise from FLL to LA during the SA Summer so her later cruises need to be canceled. The Island still needs her dry dock. It has been reported that she will be getting around 100 new cabins with a major change to the Universe Lounge area aft on Fiesta and Promenade deck. That will probably be done in Europe as her last cruise ends in FLL on March 21 and eight days later she is listed as making a port stop at Funchal, Madeira. Eight days is the typical sailing time from FLL to Funchal. Early April is much earlier than when Princess usually starts European cruises so maybe her drydock will be as soon as she arrives in Europe. It appears the Caribbean cruises are being modified by replacing many of the 4/5 day cruises with 7 day cruises to accommodate displaced Ruby passengers.
