ILoveMyDogs Posted July 16, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 16, 2005 We have booked a driver thru www.papillonservice.com for port of Livorno. Do you think we will have time to see David at The Accademia and do part of the Uffizi? I am considering skipping the stop at the Leaning Tower of Pisa to give us more time in Florence . I am open to suggestions.
Gaile Posted July 17, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 17, 2005 We were in Florence last month off the Millie and since there is so much to see in the area (we did go to Pisa), made the decision to save the Uffuzi until our next trip. Reservations for the Academia are a must! Our driver walked us straight to the front of the line and we in escorted in right away. Whatever you decide, I'm sure you'll enjoy the day. Florence is a beautiful city.
kare8ear Posted July 17, 2005 #3 Share Posted July 17, 2005 Gaile would you mind posting who your driver is. Thank you!
wwinfl91 Posted July 17, 2005 #4 Share Posted July 17, 2005 We had the same experience at the Academia. Our guide was Paola of Florence Tours. Her web site is: http://www.florencetour.com/ We also decided to skip the Uffuzi so we could see more of the other sites in Florence. Our tour included a stop at Pisa for taking pictures for about an hour. Have a great next cruise.
goldenprincess53 Posted July 17, 2005 #5 Share Posted July 17, 2005 Is there a website to obtain ticket reservations for Academia and Uffezzi?
kare8ear Posted July 17, 2005 #6 Share Posted July 17, 2005 We are also looking to use Paola! She accompanies you inside the museums, right? I'm trying to decide if we have to time to both museums and also climb the Tower of Pisa (somehow I doubt it).
wwinfl91 Posted July 17, 2005 #7 Share Posted July 17, 2005 Yes in the case of the Academia. We didn't go in the Uffizi. We didn't try to get in line for going up in the Tower as we only had an hour or so there and we wanted to get pictures and see the other sites in the Field of Miracles. Have a great next cruise. Susan-M Posted July 17, 2005 #8 Share Posted July 17, 2005 Is there a website to obtain ticket reservations for Academia and Uffezzi? This is one of them: http://www.waf.it/bigphp/mus.php?skin=citye&mus=accademia & I know that others have mentioned other sites. I read on another post that you can phone for reservations - the number for all Florence museum reservations is 011-39-055-294-88. The operators speak English. The charge is 3E pp for a reservation and you pay when you pick up your tickets. I think that the phone reservation cost works out to be less than the on-line reservation. Note: The above phone info is from SuperAgentNYC's review & if you haven't already received it, I would ask him to email it to you....lots of valuable info, esp. if you are going to do ports on your own. KruzinAl Posted July 17, 2005 #9 Share Posted July 17, 2005 We were on a Europe coach tour last year and loved Florence. The Uffizzi is very busy, expect to wait unless you book a guide and it could take you a whole day to visit it. We walked across the Arno river and toured the Palaces with a lot paintings as well. They were fantastic. We walked around the town, had a private guide for the Acadamia, just a few blocks from the centre Piazza. David is worth the visit and there are other Michaelangelo sculptures there. They don't want you taking photos inside but my daughter took a few. Some people bussed over to Pisa. They thought it was interesting, but I recommend spending more time in Florence. One day is never enough, we plan to go back again. Al
