My friend got 3500+ points on his last cruise, and the offer he received while on the ship, 20% discount on a 2-8 night cruise plus $50 cash. Why are some people getting these great offers and some are getting close to nothing?

It's all completely random on Carnival. I think the just put all the names in a hat and draw the winners for all of these offers. Two cruises ago I lost over 6k and spent a lot of time in the casino and was offered 25% off my next cruise and $150 casino cash. I played table games, always gave my sail n sign card when playing, was nice to the dealers and tipped very well. To sum it up, their pit bosses are useless.

I posted/ranted in an earlier post that perhaps some guest received platinum status via comped cruises. However, I dont know if these cruises accrue toward the needed points. Does anyone know if they received points for these cruises? I apologize for the rant.

Yes they do count. I just took a free cruise in September with my hubby and we both got the points.

I received two free cruise offers. I've booked one for April, and am deciding on the second. I just want to clarify that it is not the undesirable sailings (ie: 23 days, if some are considering that undesirable!!!), it's good for any sailing. So, for those of you that haven't gotten the offer, look up your VIFP number nad check the site. My letter stated one cruise at $50 pp, but online I had the same offer listed for two free cruises. So this is 100% true. ONly catch is that on most sailing, it is for an interior cabin only. Only select sailings allow an upgrade to ocean view for about $35 more. Woohoo...thank you Carnival!!! As you can see, I generally cruise Royal Caribbean and haven't been on Carnival in a while, but I've been convince to cruise twice with them this year. I may be converted...which I am sure is part of their plan;)

Check the website - you might be plesaqantly surprised. BTW, my ex-husband abd friend both received the same offer, so it may or may not be random, but think it is fairly common

For those who play slots, only those with highest point total got the free cruise offer on ship. Even though they printed on the daily schedule that you may get a freebie with 2500+ points, my friend didn't get it because too many people had more than 2500 points. They should say something like the players with the most points will get a free cruise instead of listing 2500 as the cut off.

How do you find out how many casino points you have?

Right now you have zero casino points. They don't carry over from one cruise to the next. On your next cruise, put you S & S card into any slot machine to find your total casino points for that cruise.

I was referring to the taxes and port fees that I mentioned in the original post. They totaled $430 for 2 people.

Read the fine print of the offers, I was offered up two free cruises of any one of several sailings and was going to book one on the fly. After talking to the PVP she suggested that I purchase insurance because if for any reason you cannot make it or are a no show you would need to pay the fee of what the cruise price was on the day of booking for those that were not free. Example in my case: Taxes and Fees=109.97 x 2, if no insurance and need to cancel I would then be charged 751.00 x2 plus 109.97 x2. That scared me a little from booking on the fly BUT did not totally rule out going yet.

Also offered the 55% discount on the Premier Casino sailings with 600.00 Cash, Free Drinks in the casino and other items not sure what.

After saying all of this remember "nothing in life is ever actually free"....I am sure I have shown a pattern with my gambling habits that they want me back after 4 years of not sailing. I did spend to what I think was quite allot on a 3 day sailing (probably 1100.00 of my own money plus all the winnings put back in)...I couldn't understand why the host kept coming over to me asking me if I wanted to join the players club, I thought it was an invitation to receiving junk mail and kept telling her oh no thanks...Little did I know I probably could have received free cruises long before now. Lesson learned and only from reading cruise critic.

  • 3 weeks later...

I was randomly checking cruises through the Carnival site and saw that the prices were incredibly low so I check my offers and I had a free cabin offer. I could book an inside and pay approx $80 in port charges per person and that is it. We booked a 7 day Easter Cruise with a balcony room for only $313 total for 2 people...Incredible!!!

My wife and I are Platinum Members, but have never received a free cruise and I played $10 in the casino on my last cruise for this past New Years.

The only thing I did different is fill out a questionnaire after the cruise on Carnival's website so maybe that was it...Who knows.

I wish everyone luck in getting the same offer!!!

Cruising on breeze March 9. First time on carnival. Want to go again late May with my daughters. What would help me in getting this free or reduced? I gamble, but not more than say 800 per cruise. Any advice or hopes for this happening for me? Single mom looking for a deal : )

Wahoo!!! Was randomly pricing out cruises yesterday and saw I had a VIFP offer for a free cabin for 2. We're now booked in a balcony on the Valor over Memorial Day, since there's 3 of us the total was around $800. In all of our past cruises we've never been offered an upgrade or anything, so I'm shocked to say the least!!!

I have had casino offers previously but never a free cruise is it listed that way in your offers as free cruise?

It's actually offered as a "Free Cabin" not a free cruise.

Typically, it seems the "Free Cabin " costs $50. pp for an interior cabin and comes with $50. refundable OBC pp, thus it is in effect a free cabin though you are responsible for fees and taxes.

Upgrades to a Ocean View or Balcony are available on a "limited basis for a small upcharge." The upcharge does indeed seem to be small, in my case $120. pp for a balcony with the $50. pp in OBC. So the net increase was $70. pp for a balcony on the Dream.
