How sexy do ladies dress on formal night?

Nope, I don't buy that. I've turned to look at people thinking, wow, that looks great, wonder where they got it as I wouldn't mind having it.;):)

Well, I suppose so...but as Sherlock43031 said "that was when most people at least tried to dress appropriately." What stands out today may-no probably-wouldn't have done so in his day.....

There is a difference between sexy classy and sexy trashy... I wear cocktail dresses on all cruise nights because both hubby and I like to dress up for dinner. I tend to wear dresses during the day as well as heels. Comfort is key... if you are used to dressing up, wearing short or long dresses, high heels... then you reflect this in how you style and carry yourself. If you are not used to heels or low cut dresses then you may come off as uncomfortable.... wear what makes you feel sexy and your hubby finds sexy on you. Times have changed... women my age (49) are a lot more youthful then they were in previous generations I think so have fun finding the perfect outfit for your formal night!!!!!

exactly. back then it was the odd person out that was not dressed appropriately now it's the odd person that is dressed appropriately which causes a second look.

back in the day you would be the odd man out not wearing a suit to a baseball game.. now if you wore a suit you would get your share of second and third looks.

Thanks all for your thoughts and feedback. I'm going out on a limb a posting pics of me in two dresses.

This one sorry its not the highest quality pic. Tried this on and hubby really likes it.

The second is here. Less formal but fun and maybe a little flirty and I already own this one.

Those are both really sexy.... definitely get the red and bring both dresses!!! I am bringing a red dress (heck- I am bringing one of every colour plus shoes to match - that's a suitcase just for shoes !!!) The red dress is along the lines of the dresses I wear- very sexy and elegant!!! Go shopping Lady!!!!!

I personally prefer the red but you would not look out of place in the black.

One tip that I learnt the hard way - don't just look at how you look in a dress standing up. At a formal evening a good deal is going to be sitting down. Check it doesn't gape or ride up more than you'd be comfortable with. I had a dreadful work Christmas party when I discovered my gorgeous 2 piece was that only when I was standing. Sitting down, the front gaped open so much I had to borrow a brooch of another girl to keep from spilling out the front and it didn't even look low cut when I was standing, it was just the way it was draped. Never made that mistake ever again!

both dresses look very nice on you..

back when you said 5'1" & plus size those pictures are certainly not what I imagined.

now if you really want to get hubby fired up be sure to wear heels and stockings (not panty hose)

That is very good advice. I'll definitely pay attention to that.

:) Thanks. Stockings might work with the black not sure about the red.

I like these better than the ones you originally posted. I am also short (5' even) and curvy. The problem I have with long dresses is that you have to hem them so much and then they just don't look right. It's very hard to find "petite" dresses that fit a busty woman. If you find something you like and it fits, go for it!

I am 5'6" and very very very plus sized, and I am 47 years old. I think I would wear any of the dresses you showed us.

My husband loves my curves, and when we cruise together, I dress to emphasize those curves [in the evening] more than I do in our everyday lives. I buy tops with a little more fit, maybe some glitter or such, slightly lower neckline.

My husband thinks I'm sexy, so I am. I don't mind what anyone else thinks, and neither should you. Enjoy your cruise, enjoy your curves, and enjoy your husband's appreciation.

Who likes to dress sexy!

I thought all the ones you posted initially were nice...I loved the red dress you posted a pic of...the black was nice, too, but I liked the red better.

The red dress is a similar style to a black dress I wear for formal nights, but it has a plunging V neckline. Have always felt sexy & appropriate (Oh, I'm sure there are a few uptight diddies who would look down their noses at me...but the dress makes me feel sexy so I don't care!) I have also worn this dress to a New Year's Eve wedding & to the clubs in Vegas--perfect for both.

I couldn't find a picture of the exact dress, but if I could photoshop these 2 dresses, I'd have it--bodice of the first link, skirt of the 2nd link, tho the skirt is just to the knees.

Sorry Bev, but I am "rock the boat" :D As far as dresses go, I love seeing my wife all dressed up and she is 5' 2". The dresses you picked out are fine. What one persons opinion is, is not necessarily right or wrong. It's how you feel in it and what your hubby thinks. My wife often ask me how she looks in something and I tell her the truth no matter how good it looks on a model.

No need to apologize to me!! didn't mean to steal your name LOL.... I did not pick any dresses though but did comment on the other ladies selection! I ask no man for his opinion ( just to make the point as a Canadian woman)! Hubby knows I wear what makes ME feel sexy and if it works for me he is happy!!! I like that you and many others, like to see your wives dressed up!! that's the point !!!

A combination of those two links you posted would be amazing. I generally go for v neck too. Make it in red and might turn lots of heads.
