Has anyone taken a cruise aboard her?

I am taking a 5-day cruise in May beginning at Passau, Germany

which includes these ports: Vienna, Estergom, Hungary, Budapest

and Bratislava, Slovakia.

I know this is a German speaking audience of 190 but fortunately

I will be traveling with a German gal pal who can translate for me.

Thanks in advance for ANY info.

Hello Rhea58,

the MS Sofia belongs to Dunav Tours and is chartered by Phoenix Reisen GmbH. You might be travelling with another charter company though. I cannot find out as you have not given your sailing date. It is an older ship, I would call it upper middle-class as regards comfort. Wikipedia claims it was built in 1983. But, as a picture says more than a thousand words, I will put a link to the Phoenix website describing the ship (in German):

By the way, cruise companies normally try to accommodate for foreign customers. Putting written info into English should normally be no problem for Phoenix, hoping that this is your charter company. Have you made sure the company knows that the language you will be using on the ship is English? I am sure they will try to supply you with some information in English.

I travelled with a mixed crowd on the Belvedere and the languages of the daily newspaper excerpts were German, English and a Scandinavian language. Menus were supplied in German and English. The cruise director will also probably have a working knowledge of English. I am convinced the German lady you will be travelling with will not be the only person you can have a conversation with on your ship. :)

Thanks so much for the input. I looked up Dunatours and found a video of

MS Sofia which is better than the other website.

I am going 5/23 as my German gal pal suggested that is a good time.

I have been warned the pax are not English speaking so do hope I

get some help along the way...if not I am bringing my own translator!!!

We are booked in a 2 bunk bed cabin which is the cheapest. As opposed

to US cruiselines, this appears to be more of a bare-bones type cruise

w/scenery being the major entertainment which is fine w/me.

From brochures I receive I am paying very little for a good experience.

Our ports are: Vienna, Estergom, Hungary, Budapest & Bratislava, Slovakia

if there is anything else you can add I'd appreciate.

with thanks --
