Yes, it's a fairly easy drive. We found much cheaper fares into Seattle, rented a van, and drove to Vancouver. I would, however, recommend flying into Seattle the night before. We stayed overnight in Bellingham, WA, which was approximately 1/2 way between. It can be a 4 hour drive or so, depending on how long the border crossing between Canada and the US is taking, so you need to allow some time to make the drive.

We are sailing out of Vancouver and priced air to Seattle too. It was about $80 less but the rental car was $88 for an economy car, then you have the gas, maybe some food and your time! It was just more cost effective for us to fly into Vancouver, Priceline for a hotel and got the Shearton Wall for $80. Just another opinion.

There's also the train (no wait at the border, you clear customs in the Vancouver station) but you have to allow for an extra night in Seattle on both ends of your trip, because there's only one train a day each way. And, there's also the Quick Coach direct from SeaTac to Canada Place, but then you have the wait at the border.

Obviously, every situation will be different. For my family of 4, airfare to Vancouver was $450 per person -- to Seattle, we got a great rate of $150 per person. That $1200 savings was more than enough to pay the van rental both ways, the hotel stays, and one of our shore excursions.

If we had only 2 people going, and the airfare savings was only $80, we would have chosen to fly directly to Vancouver too.

Found airfare from LAX to Vancouver for $95. It's their version of Southwest Airlines.

Please post upon your return and let us know how the Westjet flight was. We are considering this airline next May for one-way from YVR to LAX, depending on price. We like Alaska Airline, but will change if the price is right. We just don't want to go with the completely unknown.

Thank you!
