swom Posted January 20, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2014 I've been reading a lot of things on cruising in Feb and the water being on the chilly side etc... I've never cruise in Feb before so hoping someone can tell me if the water will be warm enough to get in. I'm talking about Grand Turk, St Maarten, Bahamas, San Juan.... I'm a water baby and love the water. I'm sure the air temperature will be nice and warm, but what about the water in Feb?
Rare POA1 Posted January 20, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 20, 2014 The water temperature in Fort Lauderdale will be in the low 70s. All your port stops will be warmer than that.
Blue Eyes Posted January 20, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 20, 2014 We normally cruise in Jan-Feb. If it is cold in FL it will be cold in the Bahamas. Everywhere else should be fine. We, too, are always looking for water related activities. We try to look for 7-10 day cruises, that way you will go far enough south to encounter warm weather.... Rare sambamama Posted January 20, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 20, 2014 I am a water baby too. I went to the Bahamas in March and the water was too cold for me- I had to swim in the heated pool. Two suggestions- if you do a bunch of swimming in indoor pools, you may not get cold or as cold. My water temperature tolerance has risen since I started swimming in them. Also, buy a rashguard shirt- either long or short sleeve. I bought one and used it on my December cruise since I was snorkeling for a long time and I would get cold. I had a short sleeve one and am going to buy a long sleeve since I still got a bit cold. You can get them off of Amazon- be aware they fit tight so look at the sizing before you order. They also help prevent sun burn.
barbarah33 Posted January 20, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 20, 2014 (edited) Yet another water baby here and compared to the water temps here in Massachusetts even in August they all seem warm to me. But not necessarily warm enough for me to jump in. Florida and the Bahamas can be a bit cool in February as the other posters said but Grand Turk can also be cool. San Juan and St. Thomas you should be fine in. :p Edited January 20, 2014 by barbarah33
Harry1954 Posted January 20, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 20, 2014 DW and I have been in Caribbean many times in February - on the islands, it is high season .. the water is a bit cooler, but I do not avoid snorkeling all day when staying at resort or when on an excursion with swimming/snorkeling. harry
Saphire Posted January 20, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 20, 2014 I have been to the Caribbean five times in February and each time the water has been consistently delightful. Really, the perfect temperature to cool off from the warm sun. I am a New Englander, however and enjoy the ocean water up here too (in the summer, of course) ;) Have a great cruise! Typhoon1 Posted January 20, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 20, 2014 I normally like to compare it to Florida temperatures. If you're heading deeper into the Caribbean like Panama or Costa Rica, it is slightly warmer.
