What to do with a 24 yr old son

Hello Eveyone,

My son and I will be crusing this weekend. Dawn 7/24. I am clueless what can a 43 yr old single mom do with her young son. Our likes and dislikes are so different? Help anyone...any suggestion? For now I visualize myself reading a book by the pool and going to bed early through out the cruise.

He can turn in and you can hit the clubs.

Go to the Casino.

You can do what you want and he can do what he wants.

I am crusing with my 25 yo son in September. We will eat great meals together, share a cocktail, gamble. We will do excursions together

I will hit the shows (he hates them). I will go to the CC gathering he won't.

For me the good thing is there is something for everybody. You each have to find your own cheese. Some of it will be shared some will be enjoyed alone.

Great entertainment in the huge Spinnaker Lounge every night. He should enjoy that--not to mention the great movies in the cinema. He is bound to meet up with other young people on board and you should make some friends too. We had fun with our 28 year old daughter and her husband.

I'm also sailing on the DAWN 7/24 !!! I'm 26 (female) and going with my mother.

I guess its a bit diffrent then a mother/son combo. I'm looking foward to the martini clinic , pool side reading, the spa , nightly entertainment, some good food, cheesy entertainment, hope they play good movies, just watching the sea go by, and the bahamas ....

Dont worry about it... if you dont find things to do togetter he'll find things to do by himself.

I'm just hoping for good weather (no hurricans) ....

Our family of 4 with 2 adult children (19 & 22) recently returned from one of our cruises. Daughter does some crafts with me, son watches some movies with his dad, but mostly they go their way all day & we meet up around dinner time, decide where to eat, get dressed & share that meal. We usually do the shore excursions together - I narrow it down to 2-3 that I think all would enjoy then let someone else pick. They stay up very late at night, but not me (we usually don't share a room tho). I can always find there is too much to do & not enough time to sit & read by the pool. ('Course I love to read!)

A dry erase board on the door of the cabin is a good way to keep in touch - you can get some that are like contact paper, then throw away when done. We stuck the marker on the door with a piece of velcro. (It also helps to spot your room when all those doors look alike!) Look --- even Captain Lars of the Wind left a message on the door the last night! (Although I thought it was rather strange that he drew a heart, too?)

Recently cruised with 76 year old mom, 62 year old husband, 52 year old sister, 22 year old daughter and her 22 year old girlfriend.

I took a pad of sticky notes, divided it into three (a section for each of our three cabins) so that we could leave each other notes on the doors of the cabins about meeting up together later.

There is something (or nothing!) for everyone on the ship. The girls tended to hit bingo, dance parties, pool activities, shopping ashore. Older members of group felt more like crossword puzzles at the pool, and a nice glass of wine after dinner.

We all agreed ahead of time that we'd all do what we wanted when we wanted, with or without the others. Everyone needed to feel they could relax and enjoy their own "cheese" (as someone else put it) without being obligated to follow others around to activities they wouldn't enjoy. We all reviewed the shore excursions ahead of time and picked one to all do together.

I think the most important thing when traveling with mixed generations is being able to say "Go have a good time. See you later" and mean it.

Enjoy the week with your son!!!

Maybe a new thread, but I'll try it here to see if it helps:

Does NCL Dawn in particular have any SINGLES oriented activities (for singles to meet and....)? if not maybe try a meet and greet and see if there are others who might assist your cruise with son. Not that I'm interested (I'll be on board with family), ok, might be a little interested :p, but thought it might help here, not sure.

I happen to think it's real nice that you and your son are doing this and I hope it works out.....just try and have fun and make the best of everything...I'm sure you will :D

Yes they do. Watch the Daily - they will have a number of solo cruiser gatherings.

We have 3 generations going on a cruise in a few weeks and really the great part of a cruise is that everyone can do things they love - and then meet up together for a lovely formal dinner together. We're planning on having lots of photos taken of us all together, dressed up. I don't think you have to be together every hour - if you start out assuming that your long, luxury meals will be the highlight of each day, you'll count yourself doubly blessed if you hit on another mid-day activity that you both enjoy!
