weather in fiords

On Arcadia fiords cruise in May. Anybody know what sort of weather we might expect? Thankyou.

It could do anything - friends went last year and it was so changeable they took layers and said clothes were of and on all the time.

On a similar note - what would you expect in August? The thing that puts us off is that August tends to be our 'sun fix' and wouldn't like to chance going on a cruise to be cold and wet.

 

I think I know what the answer will be, but can live in hope with all this global warming ....................................:rolleyes:

We've cruise the Fjords in May, July and August !

 

Very similar weather each time, it can be sunny, hot, wet, cold, windy - or a mixture of all of them :)

 

Layers are the answer, and a lightweight waterproof jacket is a must.

I am going end of May for the first time. I have decided to give up my sun fix to see the beautiful scenery which I have been meaning to do since I started cruising.:cool:

We went on a Norwegian cruise to the North Cape last July / August 2013, or first port of call was Eidfjord and the temperature was about 25°C and the local were sunbathing / swimming in the Fjord, we were walking around in shorts. In Trondheim it was the same weather the locals were telling us that we were very lucky, this was the first week that the sun was shining. In two weeks we only saw any rain once and that was when we were sailing out of our last Fjord, heading for Southampton. The further North we went the cooler the temperature was and at North Cape the day time temperature was down to about 12°C. We started by wearing layers of clothes but we soon removed most of them.

Early or late May could be the difference between February and early May in the UK. My parents went in early May and there was still lots of snow, to the extent trips were curtailed.

 

We have had sunshine for a whole week, through to last year where it rained so much in Alesund and Gerainger even the locals were saying they had never seen the waterfalls as dramatic in mid August, but by Olden and Stavanger we were in shorts!

The simplest way to work it out is, look at what your own weather in South Wales is going to be in May. Then allow for it being a bit colder or warmer, and wetter or drier. And if that's no real help, then perhaps you'll see why there's no answer to your question! :p

We cruised the fjords in late May-early June last year and only saw a little rain in Stavanger (as we were leaving) & Tromso, otherwise it was dry very warm/hot and mostly sunny in the other 6 ports.

In Trondheim it was 28c and North Cape was 22c.

Previous visit was early July 2010 and again we were blessed with near perfect weather in all ports (even Bergen).

We went for a week last year in July and had good mostly sunny weather apart from a gloomy Stavangar.

Am aware that we can expect a variety of weather conditions....just wondered what others had experienced. Obviously need to be prepared for all conditions.

Made me laugh ------------ having lived in South Wales for 3 years I imagine that it is pretty hit and miss ---- bring your wellies just incase eh ! ;)

One thing it wasn't was cold, nor was it particularly hot. At the most it was pleasantly warm. We went for a very pleasant lake side walk in the sun off the mid-stop on the Flamm railway. An Australian couple walked from there back to the ship.

 

In Bergen it was overcast but pleasant walking or having a coffee.

Here is a link to our video taken in May last year which shows the weather we experienced. We took warm pullovers and big coats but it was actually very pleasant weather, and very little rain at all, I think we were quite lucky that week.

We are considering joining Azura again on May 2nd to Norway so will we be lucky twice LOL
