lindabelll Posted July 19, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 19, 2005 During our 1989 cruise on the Celebration, the TV's in the cabins would replay the video taken by the ship's personnel of the previous day's activities. What are some of the things now being shown on the TV's in the cabins. I like to have it on for company while I'm getting dressed or when I can't fall asleep at night. mared1 Posted July 19, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 19, 2005 They show the shore talks, some of the activities and shows. Also there are channels that have music, weather, etc. You can order movies (they cost).

serene56 Posted July 19, 2005 #5 Share Posted July 19, 2005 Yes for ESPN they also run 3 movies every day 24 hours. plus PPV movies which cost 8.99 each. plus some reg tv..
4yanx Posted July 19, 2005 #6 Share Posted July 19, 2005 Yes for ESPN Whew, my 17yo son won't have to develop an excuse for not going! HA!:) Actually, I doubt the set will be turned on much other than the "Sports Center" before lights out ritual! If people really want to sit in their cabin and watch movies, which I can't really imagine unless it's a LONG cruise, consider buying or renting one of those very small DVD players that plug into most TV's. Cotton Posted July 19, 2005 #7 Share Posted July 19, 2005 The cruises I've been on most recently, Holiday and Sensation, have shown two movies each day - over and over - as well as a children's movie. Also there's a regular network station (whichever one they pick up), and the travelogue, shopping on ship, and I even got to watch a Saints game on one cruise!:) I video'd the ship's showing of the parties and folks on deck, with my camcorder. Not the clearest, but I got most of the Captain's Party and Past Guest Party.

Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted July 19, 2005 #9 Share Posted July 19, 2005 On some of the ships there will also be a channel which shows the position of the ship (at various zoom levels), its track, forward speed, and wind speed. I also recall one ship which reported the temps in the different pools...lol Up until our last cruise (on the MIRACLE during hurricane Dennis) we had NEVER EVER seen the Weather Channel on the ship's TV... They (CCL) would prefer that we all think the weather is perfect, everything is perfect, and don't worry about tomorrow or the next day's clouds, etc.... I can only assume they OPENED up the Weather Channel due to POPULAR DEMAND... that became a VERY watched channel! Has anyone else seen the Weather Channel on their cruise? Z'Loth Posted July 19, 2005 #10 Share Posted July 19, 2005 In my humble opinion, [thread=122386]Cruise Line Tee Vee sucks[/thread]. While I liked the channel that showed the ships current position, I also disliked the fact that they showed the same movies throughout the entire cruise. I should have asserted myself better and brought along my portable DVD player. No, I don't go on a cruise to watch TV all day. There is plenty to do on board ship. But, I'd rather watch TV than lose money in the casino or listen to the wonders of Tanzanite the wunder rock.

pyrrhus Posted July 19, 2005 #12 Share Posted July 19, 2005 One of the things I both disliked and liked on RCl and Celebrity is the fact that it seemed as though they changed movies out everyday. Of course during some of my down time when I caught the end of a movie, I never got to see the movie again on thee cruise because of it. So it gave variety, but also made me a bit frustrated. On the flip side about the TV issue. Not sure how true this is or not, but I met a couple on my last cruise that literally cruise 26 weeks out of the year, to the point most cruises they don't get off of the ship. She said one person they will occassionally seek out is the videographer who often runs the tv services. She claims a nice congenial conversation and tip will get them a particular tv show/game they didn't want to miss (ASSUMING THE SHIPS ANTENNA'S SATELLITES CAN ACTUALLY RECEIVE THE PROGRAMMING). Like I said, not sure the couple were telling the truth (although I am confident they were telling the truth about the numbers of weeks they cruise based on the crews reactions and the fact they could name crew members off of several of my cruises)but it does seem plausible. anno Posted July 20, 2005 #13 Share Posted July 20, 2005 I just relized that when we are on our January cruise on the Valor it will be NFL playoffs weekend. I hope we will be able to catch some of the action!
Cotton Posted July 20, 2005 #14 Share Posted July 20, 2005 Anno, shouldn't be a problem. As I said in my above post, I saw an entire Saints (regular season) game in my cabin. For playoffs, etc., there will be TVs in the lounges and sometimes casinos, for the BIG games. Once, on the Holiday, there were two games going at once - on 4 TVs in a lounge.:)
MamaParrotHead Posted July 20, 2005 #15 Share Posted July 20, 2005 BEWARE: the ESPN they get onboard is INTERNATIONAL ESPN...rarely is there anything focusing just on US sports. we spent a LOT of time in the sports bar on the Valor, got so used to hearing people question it and the poor bartender answer the same question over and over, we started answering for her. anno Posted July 20, 2005 #17 Share Posted July 20, 2005 Oh well, we will be on vacation. It will only be a real problem if the Giants make it that far. And the chances of that are slim.

Timi 3 days and counting Elation, Sunday July 24th It's not a good idea to get anyone's heart (or entire vacation) set on catching US games or highlights...you're lucky if they flash up a score of any kind. Cotton Posted July 20, 2005 #22 Share Posted July 20, 2005 No:D, but I'm a big Eli (and Peyton) fan. I've been friends with the Mannings since before they had their three sons. Season ticket holder for Saints since '72...but I do watch some Colts and Giants games.:)
anno Posted July 20, 2005 #23 Share Posted July 20, 2005 Cotton: I hope the Saints and Giants have a good year. We lived in Mississippi for a year but never got to a Saints game. My Dad used to work for the Giants but he just passed away but my uncle still works for them. I hope Eli can live up to the family name.
Cotton Posted July 20, 2005 #24 Share Posted July 20, 2005 To keep this 'in topic of cruising': I hope you get to watch your game while on your cruise. (Archie says Eli actually has more natural talent than Peyton.):)
