roberts2005 Posted January 31, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 31, 2014 I know onboard is USD ...but the islands? Should other currencies be on hand do you think? Most vendors will take dollars. But, sometimes you do better in the local currency. You need to be aware of the exchange rate. If you get 100 to the dollar you are better off paying in dollars
computerworks Posted January 31, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 31, 2014 It is easy to get XPFs as you need them..ATMs abound. Every place we went would give prices in XPF and dollars... ...but better to pay in XPF since, although they take USD, then tend to 'round up' on the conversion. Hawaiidan Posted January 31, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 31, 2014 The fun Loving ( money loving too) Tahitians welcome euros, dollars with equal abandon.... You will find the Islands a very highly polished international destination Many accept credit cards even better for you !!! The problem with the local currency is it will cost you% to buy it, Cost you a % to convert it back, and they will not convert coins.. so you will always loose going with local XPF I seldom go with the XPF after 4 trips there....
