Liquor Store

"Best" is a very subjective term.

There are many duty free liquor stores in the port area. They are competitively priced and carry many of the same brands.

Standard procedure for duty free alcohol purchases in Cayman is that you make payment and the store delivers directly to the ship. The ship distributes the purchases, often on the last night of the cruise.

If you want to buy a bottle to enjoy while you are on island then you will find the prices much higher. Cayman imposes a substantial import duty on alcohol sold for on-island consumption.

The closest liquor store that is not a duty free outlet is the Tortuga Liquors shop in the Jack and Jill building on Fort Stree.

I want to buy a pint of rum and a pint of bourbon or scotch and sneak it onboard in GC. Do they sell pints in the stores outside the pier area? I have done this several times in Nassau with no problem but not in GC.

You will have two options at the stores - buy at duty-free prices and have it delivered to the ship, or buy at island prices and take it with you for immediate consumption. Buying at island prices will likely be more expensive than just buying drinks on the ship.

As Drew said, there's a large markup on alcohol for consumption to cover the duty imposed by the government. If we want alcohol when we go for a land vacation, we usually buy at duty-free at our departure airport...it's way cheaper. Your plan won't save you money, honest.

The duty free shops at the airports I remember are in the secured area after you check your bags. Are you allowed to bring bottles of liquor in your carry-on bag?

If you buy it at duty-free in the airport, yes, but you have to move it to your checked bags for a connecting flight.
