Park at pier OR hotel it near port

We will be sailing out of Cape Liberty in June on the Explorer. Trying to decide if we should stay further out and drive to the pier and park there or stay at hotel near the port which allows parking and has shuttle service to and from the port.

We live in Pittsburgh so no air involved. Even thought of driving from Pitt early on sail date to park at pier and avoid a hotel. It is about 6-7 hour drive.

All advice is greatly appreciated.

Park at the pier if you're driving in same day.

It is not worth the extra expense of a cab to park off site....and the one place that some CCers insist on using...even when it gets bad reviews, hires any person to drive a van and is not properly licensed or insured stinks.

It's 19 bucks...save the aggravation and park at the pier....19 bucks is a heck of a lot cheaper than the 40 in NYC and than having to get your car repaired..

If you're planning on staying over due to a long drive, tell us dates, number of people, budget and whether you're around long enough to go touring, or if you just want to lay your head someplace
