WhitePearl - what is your cruise date? Did you look at the Hampton Inn on Staten Island which offers a free cruise shuttle and parking? It looks like you are coming from MD, so it would be easy to get off the turnpike at exit 10 and take route 440 across Staten Island to the hotel. This might be a much better choice than any park/sleep at Newark Airport since you a coming from the south.

Flying in the day before our cruise. Will not have a car. Is there anything within walking of the Hampton Inn for dinner or sightseeing. You mentioned about a free shuttle to the port. Do you know how often it runs?

The only restaurant near the Hampton Inn on Staten Island is in the Hilton Gardens next door. Folks have posted that they enjoyed the restaurant. You have to call the Hampton Inn to arrange the shuttle, which is run by the Hilton Gardens. You may not have a choice of times and it will be a shared shuttle. There is no place to sightsee unless you arrange for the shuttle to take you to the Staten Island Ferry to go to NYC. Coming back you might have to take a cab back to the hotel from the ferry.

Quite frankly most of the Newark Airport hotels are not much better food wise. Many hotels (particularly the ones that offer free breakfast) do not have a restaurant. You can order takeout or possibly walk to a neighboring hotel that has a restaurant. There is no sightseeing unless you go into NYC. The hotels on Glimcher Realty Way are next to the Jersey Gardens Mall, an IHOP, Ruby Tuesdays, and the mall food court.

We stayed at this Best Western once. Never again. Our vehicle had the window smashed and everything in it stolen. Five cars broken into. When we asked the manager if the car alarm went off his reply was yes, but I wasn't going out there.

Thanks Regg1216. Experiences like yours are one of the reasons we don't recommend this hotel. In the past we have had other posts about someone being mugged and hookers in this area - so not the kind of place we ever want to recommend to cruisers. To be fair folks have stayed here with no issues, but .....who wants to risk it when there are plenty of other hotels to chose from that seem to have better security measures in place.
