We will be arriving in Glasgow (Greenock) on May 19th 2014. We are looking for a tour to see the country and a distillery (we have visited Glasgow previously. Has any one had any experience with either George Martin of Go-Go Scotland tours or Michael Turpie of Piping Scot tours? Any other recommendations would be appreciated.:)

You could probably check out the feedback given on Trip Advisor on the two companies you mentioned. Another to consider (which we used when docked at Glasgow and loved it!) was Discover Scotland Tours (http://www.discoverscotlandtours.com/).

Hi druzinski try googling Scottish tour companies and it will throw up a few possibilities I have never used them but I have seen a company called Rabbies tours which are listed out and about.Hope you are successful the two distilleries nearest to Greenock are Auchentoshan about a 30 minute drive away up River and on the opposite side from Greenock and Glengoyne near to the village of Killearn and about 1 hour to 1hour 30 minutes away from Greenock.

Unfortunately there are no car hire companies in Greenock the nearest are situated at Glasgow Airport which is about 30minutes away from Greenock and again all the companies are ao the Internet just google car hire in the Paisley area.

Hope this info is of use and have a great cruise I do hope you enjoy your call at Greenock,if you get nice weather it is a rather scenic port to sail into/away from.

We've been trying to get Discover Scotland Tours to switch bus sizes on a tour they already have scheduled for May 31st (Ruby Princess). In fact, several members of our role call are already booked on this tour leaving only one seat left on their 16 seat bus. With our group that would make 19, but they need at least 7 more to make the switch possible to a slightly larger bus to accommodate all of us. It visits Loch Lamond, The Trossachs and Sterling Castle and is only 42 GBP per person, and as mentioned above, receives great reviews.

If interested, please email Michael at tours@discoverscotlandtours.com and mention the May 31st Cruise excursion to Loch Lomond. He'll keep me informed on the passenger count and let us know if they'll open up the tour to more passengers.

For those considering different dates - please keep in mind they normally run a 16 seat bus it books up very quickly, as we have now discovered !

For many of you who have googled Greenock's shore excursions, might have seen http://www.discoverscotlandtours.com. It's one of the top 3 local tours on TripAdisor.com. I contacted the owner, Michael, half year ago about my interest in booking. Waited for months and finally I was able to book a tour on-line after availability has become available. Unfortunately, there's something wrong with their payment section and I failed the booking many times. Contacted the owner by e-mail about the problem and he promised 3 times to call me for the credit card information. The phone never rang during the promises, and no e-mail notice. 10 days passed, I felt very annoyed by waiting by the phone over and over again. Each time Michael had different excuses, including: time difference, Car seat's broken, away for the tours....etc. However he did the booking Manually for me.

After the last time he e-mailed me when he's ok to call me, I couldn't hold my anger anymore and replied my complaint about his poor, unreliable customer service. I was asking for a discount to ease my disappointment, or else I have to go with another tour company. Something ridiculous happened: Michael replied- "Sorry you felt this way but no discount can be given. Please consider this e-mail as the cancellation, period." Oh my god, I almost dropped my jaw! What an awful way of doing business!!! I have never met anyone like that in North America since customers are considered the most important rule. I thought: fine, I am unwilling to have you earn the money anyway~duh......

One thing I learned from this: positive reviews on TripAdvisor aren't always countable. Go with your feeling. If you feel something is not right, don't throw your money in.

Your experience was unfortunate, but I can report it's been much different for me. At first I was sending emails to Michael using the wrong email address, but once that was corrected he has responded within a few hours to all of my inquiries. I've also called him and he picked right up.
