Seabourn for air arrangements?/Concierge?

Cruisr and Jane, we will be in London over the weekend of Aug 20th. thanks for the lunch suggestion at GR - I would love to do this - but we'll be there Saturday & Sunday only (then to Paris). (and btw - I checked out the ecco sandals but ended up getting something else - thanks for your help with this). we'll have about 12 days pre-cruise travel before boarding the Legend in Rome.

 

Winner - lol. we actually have a few good restaurants here on the Big Island, too, - but I'm getting Pretty Tired of pacific rim food. and it's close to impossible to find a veal chop here. and even with our wonderful kona coffee none of the restaurants here know how to make a cappicuino (I also don't know how to spell it) - of course there's always Starbucks, but that doesn't count!

All this talk of food is making me hungry and I am dieting so as to be able to enjoy all the food on our Seabourn trip next April!! But I do have a question about transfers, when we fly into SFO in October how easy is it to get to the City,should we just take pot luck or book something? Would welcome any suggestions.

No problem--plenty of cabs and that should be all thats necessary! I have never known any one taking anything but a cab. I'm guessing, but I'll bet its about a $25.00 trip. I'm sure some of our SFO passengers can give you a better fix on price. Its not a long ride!

I am hoping that tomorrow the concierge at my hotel can get me a reservation at GR's. (They may be on holiday). I had a really wonderful luncheon in April, albeit very expensive. I had the opportunity to meet him and we had a nice chat. I had eaten at Verre in Dubai, and he told me he was just back from a grueling filming of his 'Hell's Kitchen'.

I am keeping my fingers crossed.

 

What should be my second choice? I was thinking of Petrus.

Hi Jane,I went to Dinner at an excellent Restaurant last night called the Greenhouse,it is in Hays Mews which is just behind the Dorchester on Park Lane.The food and service were superb.French cuisine and a great wine list (two thousand choices)

I have eaten hear before when Gary Rhodes was cooking some years back.it has new owners and would be worth a visit

Hi Maunakealady,I have eaten at the Fat Duck and it is definately worth a try if you have the time.I also eat at the Hinds Head Hotel which has been recently transformed from a nice local Pub into a nice Pub with an excellent Restaurant Menu,The fries (Chips) are to die for.The other well known Restaurant in the same area is The Waterside Inn which is French Quisine and has Three Michelin Stars,it is owned by Michel Roux who is the consultant Chef for Celebrity Cruises

Hi Prunella, I would seriously consider booking a car transfer in advance from SFO airport into San Francisco. the drive will take about 30 to 45 minutes, or longer if you hit traffic. you can reserve a sedan, rather than a stretch limo, for a more reasonable price. the driver would meet you at the baggage carousel and help you with your bags, so there would be zero heavy lifting. he/she would escort you to the quiet and clean car, so there would be no waiting in lines and no thinking necessary - as you will be tired. I used to live in the bay area, and this is how we dealt with SFO. a taxi ride into San Francisco would be much, much more costly than $25 - and even more if you hit a traffic jam (which is likely). plus the taxis are generally grubby and it would be a less than stellar introduction to San Francisco. have a great trip!

I am confirmed for lunch at Gordon Ramsay's! I plan not to spend as much; if only by omitting the Kobe fillet (if offered). I have already promised the chocolates to the concierge staff.

Jane~~~you might try traveling with the "Holiday Fudge" by wrapping each piece in foil. I have found this works well. Also, I find the cute 'lit candy containers at "Hobby Lobby"......do you have the big home grown pecans for the fudge? (I laugh everytime I think of last Dec. in Barbados, when I had hand carried that enormous bag of fresh butter roasted pecans for the "Eggnog Social Sing-a-long"......all the way from West Texas!" But, one can not have a real Holiday party without the roasted pecans! Then, when we had several cups left, Tori took them to her "'lit Chicken's" after hours Crew party)

Awwwww, making special Seabourn memories!
