Snorkeling for newbies and seasoned swimmers

Hey there,

My husband and I (27 and 28) will be in Cozumel for the first time in March and we would like to take advantage of the snorkeling.

I am a moderate swimmer who's never been snorkeling and has almost no ocean swimming experience :o My husband is like a fish in the ocean and has been snorkeling numerous times in the Caribbean.

I would like to find a beach on the Western side that offers decent snorkeling a short distance from the shore (for me) and the opportunity for my husband to swim out further to a great reef. Any ideas?

We've thought about Chankanaab (maybe too touristy, expensive and lacking in good reef?), Money Bar (good snorkeling close to shore and far away?), Faro Celerian Eco Park/Punta Sur (difficult snorkeling?) and Playa Palancar (could my husband swim to the Palancar reef without a boat?).

We'll have a rental car so we won't spend all day wherever we snorkel, because we also want some time to see beaches on the East side and San Gervasio.

Thanks! :)
