greytdaddy Posted February 20, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 20, 2014 We are cruising on the Breeze and the Conquest in May. I now require a c-pap machine when I go to bed at night. This machine requires distilled water to operate. Does anyone know if distilled water is available on these ships? Thanks for any information. Greytdaddy There is a form to send to Carnival to request distilled water. I believe it is called the Special Needs Form available from your travel agent or directly from Carnival. Distilled water is $3. Bring your own extension cord and surge protector. Added: Make that the Special Requirements Information Form. pbsteve Posted February 20, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 20, 2014 Not sure on the distilled water, but don't forget an extension cord. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk

WLHyatt Posted February 20, 2014 #5 Share Posted February 20, 2014 I think it's available for a couple of dollars. I use a CPAP too, and rather than worrying about distilled water for the week I am on a cruise, I just use the tap water. I clean the water chamber with white vinegar when I get home to demineralize it and it has not been an issue. Any residue that collects during that week is not enough to hurt the machine. Most of the water that you get from the tap is made onboard anyway through distillation, the only minerals that would be in it would be trace amounts from the onboard water distribution system. LKYGSR Posted February 20, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) I emailed Carnival for same question on my upcoming Freedom trip. They replied that I should bring my own extension cord and distilled water can be obtained from housekeeping for $3. Not accurate. Most of the water produced onboard is made utilizing the reverse osmosis (RO) process.

Did you have to request the distilled water in advance, or could you request it once on board?
WLHyatt Posted February 20, 2014 #9 Share Posted February 20, 2014 Not accurate. Most of the water produced onboard is made utilizing the reverse osmosis (RO) process. Ok, I stand corrected. The rest of my comment still works for me. YMMV.
grumpyjr88 Posted February 20, 2014 #10 Share Posted February 20, 2014 Your steward will bring you some if you ask or just leave a note. Sent from my SGH-T989 using Forums mobile app

LKYGSR Posted February 20, 2014 #12 Share Posted February 20, 2014 Did you have to request the distilled water in advance' date=' or could you request it once on board?[/quote'] The email resonse did not specify. I assume, on board. I also noticed that in my traveler profile of my booking the medical advisory "other" is now checked. So I assume they may have placed a note in my booking, perhaps. I plan to ask Steward when I board if he/she can help me with the distilled water, and of course provide a few bucks tip if successful :)

Greytdaddy I don't think it requires distilled water to operate (at least none of the machines that are used by people I know do). The distilled water is to decrease the dryness of the air supplied by the machine. I haven't used water in mine for 2 years and it works just fine. my2monkees Posted February 21, 2014 #14 Share Posted February 21, 2014 I have a CPap and have never used water (for my last one they asked if I wanted the water part and I declined). My mom also uses a CPap and while cruising she just takes off the water part and uses it w./out.
Pyxie Posted February 21, 2014 #15 Share Posted February 21, 2014 I have a CPAP and I use bottled water. I just plan on using some of the bottled water I bring with me.
nodogkisses Posted February 21, 2014 #16 Share Posted February 21, 2014 I like to drink distilled water and always call room service and a nice cold gallon of distilled water is brought to me for around $3.00. Never ordered ahead, never asked room steward, never called a special needs dept. Just called Room Service.
jamesr3939 Posted February 21, 2014 #17 Share Posted February 21, 2014 Yep, order from room service that's what our friend just did on the Dream in January.
The4Cruisers Posted February 21, 2014 #18 Share Posted February 21, 2014 As a previous poster stated, I too leave the humidifier portion of my CPAP home when I cruise. Works fine for the short term.
bikercruiser Posted February 21, 2014 #19 Share Posted February 21, 2014 Hubby uses a CPap also and we buy small bottles of distilled water used for baby formula. He puts one or two in his bag with no problem. Another suggestion is a small roll of duck tape to tape your extension cord down on the carpet. It depends on where the plug is but for us it always seems to be on the other side of the room. We put the tape over it to keep from tripping but also allows steward to just vacuum over it with no problem.
JimAOk1945 Posted February 21, 2014 #20 Share Posted February 21, 2014 I always bring my own extension cord and the leave the humidifier portion at home. I have done this for several years and it seems to work for me. Happy cruising!
Boozebabe Posted February 21, 2014 #21 Share Posted February 21, 2014 On our Sept cruise on the Breeze my friend forgot to request distilled water in advance so she asked the room steward as soon as she saw him and he put a gallon in her cabin before bedtime. Not sure the price she paid.
cruse2loose Posted February 21, 2014 #22 Share Posted February 21, 2014 I read that it is ok to use regular tap water on a cruise. It will not hurt you or the machine.
WLHyatt Posted February 21, 2014 #23 Share Posted February 21, 2014 I have used tap water and bottled water without issues in the past.
FireStation46 Posted February 22, 2014 #24 Share Posted February 22, 2014 I wrote an email to RCCL. They will provide the distilled water on my June cruise. Just send them an email and keep a copy of their reply. I doubt I will have any issues. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
