Canopy Tour In Pv / Need Advice

 My husband & I are extremely interested in the zip line tour in Puerto

Vallarta. I need alittle advice from those who have done this before. I

have one shoulder with severe arthritis and can't really lift anything

without quite abit of pain. I can, however, lift it above my head for a

minute or so without much pain. When you're navigating on the zip lines,

is there alot of stress on the shoulders? I REALLY want to do this tour,

but also don't need to finish off my left shoulder in the process. Any

input would be greatly appreciated.

Well, you are going to have the time of your life. First of all I'm going

to recommend you do the tour with the Los Veronos company. I hear

that the one offered by the cruise line was more strenous and involved

some rappelling at the end. Not so with Los Veronos. There is about

a 5-10 minute walk uphill to the first platform and then it's pretty much

downhill from there. As far as stress on your shoulder, I think you'll be

okay. You are supported by the harness that fits on you like a parachute

does. It kind of acts like a seat while you are zipping and you keep it

on between zips. You only really use your arms to hold onto the

pulley. You will lean back and hold your legs out forward so your arms

will be above your head. The longest zip is less than a minute long. If

you book online you get a 10% discount so it comes out to $63 per

person. You will need to take a taxi to the office but all the instructions

are on the website.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

DKAY - I don't want to throw cold water on your idea BUT I can't imagine going on the zips with arthritis in a shoulder. You use your arm, held up, behind you, on the wire, to brake yourself. I just checked with my DH and he said 'bad shoulder, NO Way!!' HOWEVER, we went on the excursion booked thru the ship, not Los Veranos, so maybe theirs is very different.

The zips are very, very fun so maybe some more Los Veranos patrons will reply and let you know some more details. It would be a shame for you to miss it if you could possibly do it.

I'm not sure if this'll work, but I'll try to paste a photo that might give you the idea..

We just went on the Los Veranos tour last month and had a blast. Cat Girl was correct - you are harnessed, not with one but with two lines and they use a pulley system. You hold onto the pulley very gently - if you hold too tight it can actually slow you down. To slow down, you actually move the pulley back and forth, but only do that if they tell you. The only problem I would see with you doing this particular tour is that if you slow down and don't make it to the platform. If that happens, you then have to turn around (which is really easy) and pull yourself (hand over hand) to the platform. Now this really happens rarely, but it can happen. One thing you can do is ask them is that if you are unable to do this, can they come out to get you. We actually had that happen to one woman a couple of times and they thought nothing of going out to "rescue" her. They are really wonderful and very funny. I even asked them if I could come down there and get a job and they said "of course!" We're planning on a Mexican Riveara cruise next year and we're definitely going back! Good luck!
