Cruise cash

Hello!

My wife and I are taking a the 23 day relocation cruise on the Legend this August. I plan to pre-pay gratuities and I would like to keep from dying from shock when I get my S&S bill at the end of the trip.

I would like to hear from anyone who has used cruise cash to defer some of that final bill. How did it work out for you? Were there any problems with using it?

Thanks...

so no, there was no problem at all using up the cruise cash we bought ahead of time. In fact, to offset the sticker shock at the end, I wish I had bought more.

That's my problem too my damn bar tab!! Plus this cruise is 23 days so the gratuities alone will be over 500

Yup, and I almost guarantee it, aside from your prepaid gratuities you will want to tip certain bartenders extra (at least me and DH did). Enjoy your cruise; we've only been on one and it was so good!

Why not just accrue the cash and prepay your credit card right before sailing.

Used it. It is very, very easy.

Just buy it online ahead of time.

Once onboard spend as you please.

The only "catch" is that you must use all of your Cruise Cash or cash out at the casino. If you have a vague idea of what you are planning to buy, just get enough cruise cash to cover that. :)

My last cruise was a 6-day on the Breeze. I put $300 cruise cash on my S&S. There were no problems. The money was available when I boarded. My total bill was $537. The balance was charged to the Amex I provided at check-in.

I always prepay my gratuities.

This is exactly what we do.

Before they had cruise cash, we also sent "regular cash" via a credit card payment for this very same use/reason.

I would suggest sticking to cruise cash & not cruise cash-bar or cruise cash-photo.

Some will claim that you should save your money (earn interest) & that you shouldn't give Carnival your money, etc. I say that you have to know what works for you. I want to enjoy an adult beverage or several on my cruise, I don't want to be shocked by a huge S&S bill. So I pre-pay just like my tips.

The only thing we didn't like with the cruise cash was that it was "Use it or lose it". We purchase the Gift Cards, if their is money left at the end of the week they just place it on another gift card that we save for our next cruise;) I have heard that you can also cash out in the casino as well like the Cruise Cash. Just another option.

Do the gift cards have a service fee? I've only purchased ones for a specific store/restaurant. I thought that an AMEX gift card that you can use anywhere (on Carnival) had a charge associated with it. Something like paying $105 to get a $100 gc.

Good point thank you. However I am more than confident that I will USE any cash I put on there haha.

Hey Thebosn1, are you part of our Roll Call for this cruise?

Check out the Roll Call section for this trip. There are a bunch of us that are planning activities and excursions together.

Check it out....come and join the fun, if you haven't already!

For the transpacific? Yes we are on the roll call. I just suggested we have a big party because so many of us have special occasions during the trip. Jim and Kirsten.

I use it to prepay for the Cheers program so I don't have to think about the $400+ charge at the end of my trip. I'm sure my S&S bill will be above that, and they'll put the balance on my card so I can pay it off when I get home. It's easy to use; just make the purchase and it appears on your S&S card when you board.

I like buying cruise cash and just having the gift cards in my room when I board. This way, I can take $25 or $50 out of each paycheck, and buy one. I don't really miss it and it's not in a place where if I need a little extra cash for whatever reason, that I'll "borrow" from it. It's an "out-of-sight, out-of-mind" thing. And with gratuities for 4, and all of the other things we purchase, it really helps avoid a big hefty bill at the end of our cruise.

No, no service fees and you can either have them mailed to the house in the form of a gift card or just have them emailed to you. I just with they would make them re-loadable. I normally show up with a stack;)

This is what we bought it for. just to avoid that large bill on our credit card or having to bring cash. I prefer to have alot paid off. I think next cruise however I'll do gift cards....

Now I'm a little confused. What's the difference between gift cards and cruise cash?
