cruiselover0213 Posted March 8, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 8, 2014 We have decided not to book any excursions while in St Thomas but to just go with the flow and do our own thing. Any recommendations on a kid friendly close to port beach? Any beaches near by that have wave runner rentals or snorkeling equipment to rent? Any other suggestions on things to do while in St Thomas? Thanks!
DISNEY FANTASY Posted March 8, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 8, 2014 (edited) Megan's bay is very good. This is a write up on it. Magens Bay in St. Thomas is the most popular beach. The beautiful one mile stretch is a public park and was donated to the people of the Virgin Islands by Arthur Fairchild. It is the only beach on St. Thomas that has an entry fee; funds are used to maintain the facilities and the beach. The water is usually very calm with no waves or current, great for floating along and for swimming. The bay deepens gradually from shore making it perfect for small children. Entry Fee: Adults $4 ($2/residents), Children under 12, free. Car Parking $2 Swimming: Calm Beachside: Sand Food/Drinks: Yes Water Sports: Yes Accessibility: Taxi, Car Snorkeling: Poor Amenities: Restroom, Showers, Changing Rooms, Chairs, Gift Shop, Lockers, Lifeguards Taxis: Almost Always at Taxi stand. Brewers Bay in St Thomas is a beautiful beach. The waters there are almost always calm and crystal clear. Palm trees and sea grape trees are scattered along the shore. The beach is not developed, but it is located in walking distance from the University of the Virgin Islands campus. Roadside food vans sell local foods like meat and saltfish pates, johnny cake, fried chicken, rice and beans and various drinks & snacks. While on weekdays the bay is sparsely populated, on weekends it is a favorite with residents for family picnics and gatherings. Hidden Minnie Posted March 8, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 8, 2014 We had a wonderful day at Magen's Bay - it was one of the highlights of our cruise. No wave runners, but they had kayaks and standing paddleboards, as well as floaties. The little snack shop/grill had really large portions at decent prices. Because you have to pay to get in, there was no one hawking anything. It was very peaceful. Also, if you go through the Disney excursion, the chair rental is included. adellel Posted March 12, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 12, 2014 Magen's Bay is by far my favorite beach in the world! Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! Take the taxi there and enjoy. There is a shop and a restaurant, and you can get floaties and snorkeling gear. Don't do Coki beach with kids. People are there to sell/smoke pot, and the crime nearby is an issue.
