One time platinum status offer for booking Past Guest rates

I've already got a cruise booked for the summer (did it during one of the many $50 deposits & free upgrades sale) but thought I'd post in case this promotion is a value for anyone else...

I received mail yesterday advertising an upgrade to Platinum Status if I booked with Past Guest rates. I looked at it closer, and found out it was a one-time only offer. Figures! Here's the details:

Offer is valid for Past Guests with a valid/qualifying VIFP number. Offer is applicable on select sailings between 4/5/14 and 11/30/14. Valid on new bookings only. Must book between 3/1/14 and 3/31/14 to be eligible for a one-time temporary Platinum status upgrade. To receive this offer, eligible bookings must be logged at carnival.com/specialplatinum by 4/1/14. To qualify for this offer, your sailing must have been booked using rate code OA8.

Tiffany, when booking a cruise, where do I enter the rate code?

I don't *think* you can manually enter the fare code when you do a mock booking... I remember this being an option when I first started booking cruises, but haven't seen it anymore. Instead, you can look up offers with the OA8 rate code by going here: http://www.carnival.com/specials/past-guest-offers-OA8.aspx

If you try a mock booking on Carnival.com, you'll be prompted to enter your VIFP Past Guest number when you reach the section asking how many travelers & rooms. Once you enter that, it'll show you a list of fares...Past Guest, Early Saver (if applicable), Pack and Go (if applicable), or whatever other promotion is going on. When I went online to look, the Past Guest Rate did feature the "One-Time Platinum" Upgrade.

I would guess if you don't plan out for a cruise, booking as a past guest can save you money.... For me, I plan months in advance to get the best deal... So past guest is not a good choice... when early saver is a better deal. But should get to platinum within the next 2 years, so, that will be a good bene of being loyal...

Makes me wonder why anyone should be loyal to Carnival.

People should cruise carnival for their initial product not the free perks that only come with cruising carnival lots!

Carnival is right to use available perks as an incentive even on a lottery basis for lesser VIFP members and non members alike, this will give people a chance to experience what extra the future can offer to those considering cruising as a regular vacation without being scared off by high suite prices to get them now.

Personally I think with FTTF free cruise offers casino deals and temporary platinum status it is ensuring a healthy new cruise market.

It doesn't affect the current Platinum and above loyal cruisers in any way whatsoever other than putting some of their noses out of joint!

  • 5 months later...

I got that same e-mail, but the timestamp shows it as being sent on 4/8/14, which was after the deadline for signing up. Not sure why you have to sign up anyway. I've sent a couple of requests to Carnival to see why my status is still showing as Gold, but no answers yet.
