Carnival Paradise Disappointment

Wow... I wouldn't call that a "review of the Carnival Paradise" since that had nothing to do with the boat, itself. Seems like that should have been sent in an email to Carnival, not posted on here.

I agree the OP should send a letter to Carnival if he is still upset about these incidents, even if no one here thinks the complaints have merit. Still, I don't see anything wrong with him describing them here; the site is called Cruise Critic after all!

Also, I believe the title of the post is "Carnival Paradise Disappointment". The OP makes no claim that it is a full review. I have read many reviews under the Member Review section. Some are great, thoughtful and complete, others are skewed and very limited in scope. I thought this OP at least praised some good aspects of the cruise, (bar staff).

So, after almost 20 cruises with RCCL, we decided for schedules sake, to try Carnival Cruise Lines. Wow...what a mistake. Shortly after we arrived, Tori's billfold was stolen and when we discovered it was gone, we immediately went to Guest Services to contact security. Our thought, with camera's all over the ship, it would make sense that a camera somewhere would pick up something somewhere. We were told however, that there probably wasn't anything security could do, but they would allow us a "Free call home to have someone cancel the cards" and would notate our account and to check back with them to see if it was turned in. Not happy with this response, I then found a "white uniformed" officer and told him our plight, asking to speak to ship security. His response was that we had to go to Guest Services. VERY disappointing. As we were still going through the city of Tampa, we had signal on the cell phone and was able to cancel the debit and credit card. But the response from Carnival personnel aggravated a difficult situation.

While we didn't want this to spoil the entire vacation, we decided forget about it as much as we could and move on. But, there is a huge difference in the service we received onboard. For example, one night as we were leaving Elations Dining Room, two crew members crossed in front of us, making us stop in our tracks. While both understood completely what they did, they didn't say excuse me, apologize or anything, they just kept going. This would NEVER happen on RCCL. Another example...at the omelet buffet, I was next in line and there was a lady behind me from another country. The omelet maker (who happens to be from the same country) saw her and said hello, which is fine, but when it got time to make the next omelet, he totally ignored me and asked her what she wanted. I then said something to him and he looked at me with a scowl and said "what would you want". The lady behind me was very embarrassed and turned to me and apologized, saying she didn't realize I hadn't ordered mine yet. But, I was totally ignored by the omelet guy in favor of someone from his own country. Once again, this would never happen on RCCL. This is only two examples of the challenges we faced on board.

On the bright side, there was a bartender in the bar outside of Queen Mary Lounge that was phenomenal. Here name is Evelyn and she made sure she remembered our name and what we usually ordered. When we came into the bar, she would look up say hello to us by name and then ask if we wanted the drink we normally ordered. She is only on Paradise until 3/22, has two months off and then gets on Breeze for a six month cotract out of Miami. Look her up if you are on these ships.

I rarely write reviews but had to share my thoughts on this experience. No, the billfold never showed up and we never heard from Guest Services, Security or any other department on board.

We wasted our money...never again on Carnival

UMMMM, crew members DID cut in front of my mom and I on RCCL, so, yeah, it does happen on RCL, but that is not why im choosing not to cruise with royal again. I like being called by my first name or Ms. (last name) on carnival..not "Hi Lady" like they did on RCL. sorry, you didn't enjoy your cruise, but to say "It never happens on RCL, is BS". every sailing is different. Where was the billfold when you discovered it was stolen? just laying on a table? in your room? at security? security could look for it, but chances are, a dishonest person stole it. What did you want from guest services, just out of curiosity.

Wow - so every crew member on RCL called you "lady?" Ha! It has never once happened to me. Then again, I am male!

In any case, I find it interesting that you choose your cruise line on the basis of how you are addressed.

Personally I love Carnival but as with any business there is room for improvement. Has anyone else tried to call security on a cruise? We had the occasion to need security this past cruise and tried to call. There is not a posted number for security so you call guest services where you get a voice message if they are closed. There was a couple in there room almost a full hallway away from our room and you could hear them going at it like they were going to kill one another. When I got the recording I tried to call room service hoping they would give me a direct line or send security. They told me to call guest services. After four different calls I finally got through to someone. The scarey part is the next morning when we got into port we found out a lady had died. The first thought was if it was the people carrying on that took at least an hour to get hold of someone to ask for security. :(

My wife and I will be taking our 3'rd Carnival cruise in 6 weeks after 5 Princess cruises and 1 on RCCL. We have NEVER had a problem, complaint, snafu, delay, personnel problem- anything- on any cruise. But I can tell you that we will be the ones with a drink in our hands and a smile on our face!!:D:cool:
