Mr. Sanchos and gastric bypass question

Question about Mr. Sanchos- we have never been before, but plan on going in August… My wife is having gastric bypass surgery next month… it is my understanding that one can purchase an all-inclusive option, or an ala carte type choice… we don’t believe that it will be worthwhile for us to purchase the all inclusive choice for my wife because of the limited ability to drink/eat after her surgery… I understand that all inclusive patrons go one way on entering Mr. Sanchos and pay as you go, heads out another way… is this correct, or does the all inclusive route get some kind of arm band??? Please comment, especially if you have experience with the gastric bypass thing …

I had the same issue except my mom didn't have surgery, she just can't eat or drink a whole lot due to homeopathically healing her gall bladder (she follows a strict diet instead of electing to do surgery). Anyhoo, I emailed and asked them and they told me it's a completely different part of the resort. All inclusives go to another area. So, I went ahead and booked her with the rest of us (of course!). She will be fine. It's worth it for us since I know the men in our group will help eat/drink their share along with her's.

I don't know what Mr Sanchos is but ....maybe... ahem you all should find something non food related to do on vacation to keep your wife healthy. Anything with an "all you can eat" option should no longer be in either of your radar.

Okay that being said...I'mma stay out of you all business.

PEACE!

thanks for your comments!!! please keep them coming....Candy, thanks for your thoughts on the subject!!! we have been to Cozumel many times and have never tried Mr. Sanchos, Neither one of us will drink if we are driving, so i am not sure it is worth $50.00 for me to buy her an all inclusive...(this would be a chance for us both to cut loose some)since neither of us wiil be driving... i mainly wanted to verify about all inclusive guest being seperated from the pay as you go customers...i guess i will buy her an all inclusive pass so we can spend the day together... was not concentrating on the food thing as much as the alcohol... peace back to you!!!

I had the gastric bypass about 4.5 years ago. For the first 18 months, I could not drink alcohol at all. It made me really sick. Even after all this time, I get extremely drunk on very little alcohol. Please have her be very careful as the alcohol can sometimes cause ulcers too. Ulcers are a common problem for gastric bypass patients, and she will need to take precautions (such as only using tylenol, no ibuprofen, aleve, or aspirin, and avoiding other ulcer triggers).

In the past, we were told there were two separate areas for the AI customers and a la carte customers. If that is true, you wouldn't be able to be together without an exception. I'd think they would make an exception, but you never know.

ok, thanks!!! appreciate the info!!!

We went to Mr Sanchos the last time we were in Cozumel, maybe 5 years ago, and paid a la carte and it was very nice. Extremely laid back, No cover to enjoy the beach, and very polite, friendly, and low-pressure staff. Food was good. We will probably do it again this year. Prices are about what you would pay at a Chevy's etc, way higher than if you went to a taco stand on the street but not expensive for a place whose prime demographic is American and Canadian tourists and is giving you a beach to sit on. Their menus are posted to their web site.

That said, from the website it looks like it is a bigger operation now than when we visited. I wasn't aware of another area at the time but my guess is that the AI area is more of a party zone and the a la carte area is more laid back, probably where I would feel more in my element even if I hadn't recently had surgery. I think you would have to do some industrial strength consuming to make the all-inclusive a better deal.

Best of luck with the surgery.

We went to Mr. Sanchos at the end of February. I think taxi is about $16-$19 for 4--one way. We did the all inclusive --there were 13 of us. My husband and I are not drinkers, the food was okay. When you enter you will go under the covered area to pay your balance, where they will give you a wrist band if you are doing the all-inclusive, which was to the right side behind the pool. If you did not do all inclusive, you were escorted to the left. Plenty of tables. It was very crowded the day we were in port and our ship was the last one to arrive. We did not have any problem finding a table but there was no room for chaise lounges on the beach. The beach area is nice, but crowded. Did we get our money's worth--no, but several in our group did. Service was excellent and we enjoyed the day with our group. Nachi Com which is about a block away, only reserves 100 spots for the day, so it may be better for you. We've been there too. Service was excellent at both. Hope you enjoy your time.

My wife had gastric bypass in late Feb of last year, we went to Vegas in July of last year and she had some drinks, not a lot but she had a good time.

Now a year later, and her 87 lbs down, she looks great. Shes my hot momma!

She drinks on occasion with me, she has always liked blush wine and can still tolerate it. However it doesn't take her much to go over the top. We went to a party this past Saturday and she had three small glasses of wine and she was trashed.

I had to tell her three glasses is too much, that little belly cant hold as much as it used too.

Now, stating what i just did above. This is why we cant and wont do the cheers program on the ship. Im sure i can drink my moneys worth, but considering you have to purchase it for every adult in your cabin, Carnival would definitely have the upper hand if i had to purchase it for her.

I had Gastic Bypass about 5 yrs ago and went to Mr. Sanchos in November 2012 with my family. I was a few years post op so I was able to eat and drink some. Now with your wife only being a few months, I doubt she's going to be able to eat or drink much at all, never mind $50 worth. If you say your not a big drinker then it may be better for you to just do the Pay as you Go. Its really not that expensive there. There is a menu with pricelist somewhere on these boards.

Just a little bit of advice for your wife. If she is having the actual bypass (not the new sleeve), tell her to be careful of drinks full of sugars. Since my bypass, if I have too much sugar, I can't tolerate it and I get sick. She needs to go slow. Things she could enjoy before might not be so good for her now (take it from an Italian that can no longer eat pasta :()

Best of luck to your wife with her surgery.

  • 2 weeks later...

My bypass surgery was 5 years ago. I was told that one drink will make me legally drunk because of the rapid absorption of alcohol. Also, at 4 months out she won't be eating hardly anything. I go to buffets with people for the socialization, but I never get my money's worth, so to speak. I figure I'm paying for the company, not the food! Even 5 years out I can only eat 1/3 of a meal. I am the queen of doggie bags!

Go to the pay as you go, focus on the atmosphere and have a blast! By then she will have a big weight loss to show off and will be super proud! Have fun!
