krisl Posted March 20, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 20, 2014 Looking for suggestions on doing the white pass railroad and gold panning in Skagway. We will be arriving on the Coral Princess in June at 7AM. There is a Rail, Summit, Gold Panning & Gourmet lunch excursion offered by the cruise ship but we are not really interested in eating at the Historic Skagway Inn and would prefer to do something on our own. Has anyone ever done their own train and gold panning excursion? Thanks in advance! :)

If you try and book the train privately on line they will refer you back to the cruise line . Most trains are fully booked by the cruise lines or other tour operators. I would do an online search for private tours and see what they offer.

Thanks in advance! :) You shouldn't have any problem booking the train separately, either through the ship or independently, the price is essentially the same. There are three train departures on Tuesdays and Wednesday There are two places in Skagway that offer a gold panning experience. One is downtown, the other accessible by a city bus to the edge of town. http://www.klondikegoldfields.com/#!gold-panning/cb7f
