susietb Posted March 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 24, 2014 We have been to Athens several times and would like to make it a beach day on an upcoming cruise this summer. Can anyone recommend a nice beach that we can take public transportation to?
cberge Posted March 24, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 24, 2014 We have been to Athens several times and would like to make it a beach day on an upcoming cruise this summer. Can anyone recommend a nice beach that we can take public transportation to? This question was just asked within the month so do a search on this board putting in your question...I think the reply was there is NOT a beach near the port, but one further away. susietb Posted March 24, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted March 24, 2014 My next question would be does anyone know how to get to Glyfada from Piraeus?
Rare Hlitner Posted March 24, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 24, 2014 (edited) You can catch the A1 bus (from along the road outside the port) to Glyfada. Personally, we are not big fans of the beaches that close to Pireaus because there are some questions regarding water pollution. Not a big deal if you do not swim, but otherwise might be cause for concern. We have previously rented a car in Pireaus and driven down the coastal road towards Sounion where there are multiple beaches (along the road) with very clean water. Here is a link to an interesting article on the beach situation: http://www.athensguide.com/beaches/ Hank Edited March 24, 2014 by Hlitner

cruiseathon Posted April 1, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 1, 2014 We went to Batis beach from the port (about 3 miles south east as the crow flies), and found it surprisingly nice for a town beach. It's easy to get to - bus to metro station, then metro to Faliro, (just 1 stop, 5 mins), next walk over the footbridge across the road to reach the SEF tram stop, finally take the tram to Batis beach (10 stops, 15 mins). Here's my picture of Batis beach
