Confused over Carnival Smoking Policy

We are not smokers and I have nothing against smokers. This is just about what the real deal is ? We were on Triumph in Oct, someone smoking a cigar on balcony, told by guest services it was not allowed,so I checked CCL website. It says it is allowed. Called CCL. They said ship was wrong. Went on Magic 3-16-14..Funtimes clearly states cigar smoking is only allowed on deck 5 , Lanai , portside. Checked website again, says it is allowed, called CCL again, lady tells me it is up to the individual ship.What the heck is the right answer ?:confused:

Different ships have different policy's on where you CAN smoke on the ship. All have smoking on Baloncys, and casino. Some ship on one side of one of the pools. Other can not smoke by the pool. Only on certain area of certain decks

DH always has a cigar or five on the balcony. We have never been told that this was not allowed.

I was wondering if this rule applied to people "sneaking", and if the steward smelt it, or caught you, you paid the $250.

So you can smoke ALL week in your stateroom, with no problems, and just pay the $250?

That is correct. It is a one time fee. At one time, it was also allowed without a cleaning fee.

 

No, I don't smoke. I think it is disgusting, but I have no problem with those who do. It is their right and up to them.

This is straight from Carnival's website. As you can read below "Guests in balcony staterooms may smoke (including cigars) outside on their balcony."

I agree. This was the reason for my thread, and again was told by Carnival by phone today that the ship rule overrides the CCL website rule, thus very confusing. Again, Magic funtimes clearly states cigars and pipes can ONLY be smoked in Lanai deck 5 portside..

The confusion seems to be in which PUBLIC areas cigars can be smoked. The ships all have several areas for cigarette smoking, but often only one PUBLIC area that also allows cigar smoking. Balconies are OK for cigar smoking. That's consistent across the fleet.

 

I think what the person on the phone was trying to say is that ships rules regarding where cigars can be smoked in public area trump what may be on the web site. They do sometimes change the smoking areas when in port when they are bunkering (fueling).

I always thought it was $250 per incident. Even if its not, their documentation says they can kick you off the boat for it

you called carnival multiple times to argue this fact? makes no sense. I will worry about a smoking policy when & if it ever affects my cruise. then I would check with those carnival folks on the ship I was on and go from there. would find no need to call carnival multiple times and debate their policies.

Read it however you want. I have no interest in arguing with you. All I know is when I was on Glory in October, I smoked cigars on my balcony. One evening while I was smoking, the cabin steward even commented on it, saying he was glad I was enjoying the cruise and our balcony.

 

I can't for the life of me figure out why you are trying to make such a big deal out of it. Oh well, I'm going to smoke a cigar!!!!:D

The quote from the funtimes is not stated clearly as to what it means. It actually means that place is the only PUBLIC place you can smoke a cigar on the ship. You are still allowed to smoke them on your own balcony unless you have a spa balcony.

The quote from the funtimes is not stated clearly as to what it means. It actually means that place is the only PUBLIC place you can smoke a cigar on the ship. You are still allowed to smoke them on your own balcony unless you have a spa balcony.

Really?????:confused: I quit regular cigarettes and NOW I am supposed to be subjected to second-hand smoke?!?!? SMH!!!!

 

By the way, I smoke the electronic in my cabin (like a chimney) and manage to avoid the $250.00 cleaning fee :p Duh right?

Many of my friends discreetly use their E - Cigs in "nonsmoking" places without issue.

 

 

The reason Carnival currently says "smoking areas only" is for 2 reasons:

 

1) to prevent the staff and crew from having to chase down every puff of smoke to verify it is real or E....

 

2) sadly there would be additional problems with smokers seeing the "puff" and assuming it is a real cigarette and then lighting up themselves.

 

The " well I saw them doing it" would just add a whole new can of worms that staff and crew do not have the time to handle and should not have to handle.

 

I am hoping that when E-Cigarettes become common place, this restriction will be lifted because that is what E-Cigs are designed for.

 

I do not smoke, but I have pushed for years for Carnival to sell E-Cigs at the bar.

 

It would be a win/win for smokers and nonsmokers alike AND would make Carnival money.

They banned eCigs in Los Angeles in all places that cigarettes are banned.

Apparently Mr. Heald and the Beards are currently discussing changing this policy to allow e-cigarette use everywhere

The key word here being discretely.

 

There are a few places in LA that still don't enforce the e-cig ban and those are the places I frequent most.

 

LHP, I am with you 100% on the below. Hopefully e-cigs will become more common and widely accepted over time.

This is such a GREAT idea LHP!!!! I hope they take your advice! That would be a total win-win, especially if some smokers of traditional cigarettes were converted in the process :)
