Can someone explain the "3rd guest in a room" fare to me?

To the OP. From what I have read about CAS bookings, you can book an additional room for 1 person and not be charged for 2 so you would only pay for 1. Maybe this is an option for you since you can get a second room.

I don't know if that's correct.

i do know that CAS can and will comp a CAS player a room and the room can only be for only 1 without any additional charge. I also know that if one has a cruise voucher from a land casino CAS will allow only 1 in the room with that voucher without charging more.

Well I will be calling them tomorrow, anyway, because I just did further research and saw that I am making a mistake by not taking a Glacier Bay cruise.

So I will be calling tomorrow to switch. Hopefully the balcony upgrade is available.

Please let us know if they'll book a 2nd room for only 1 person. That's something that is good for everyone to know.

Wow it worked!!

Thank you so much for this tip.

I switched cruises and then asked how much it would be to get the cheapest inside cabin for the third person (in this case, my wife), and it was only the fare for 1 person minus 10%!

So for the same price (it's within like $3), I am getting an entire second room!

I hope CAS never changes this policy. This is great!

Also as an added bonus, it will get even cheaper if it goes down before 75 days prior to cruising (which I'm guessing it will) and I call in for an adjustment.

Harriet, it worked for me on the Gem last month - booked my last minute daughter in her own room, so single supplement, plus the discount. Nice policy.

I'm glad it worked out for you.....and nice to know CAS will do that!

Robin,

It's not nice to refer to your daughter as 'last minute' :D

Thank you....I had no idea!

This is what it says on the NCL site for this cruise, regarding the itinerary:

Mon Whittier (EMBARK) --- 9:00 pm

Tue Hubbard Glacier --- ---

Wed Icy Strait Point 9:00 am 5:00 pm

Thu Juneau 7:00 am 1:15 pm

Sawyer Glacier --- ---

Fri Skagway 7:00 am 5:00 pm

Sat Ketchikan 1:00 pm 8:00 pm

Sun Cruising the Inside Passage --- ---

Mon Vancouver (DISEMBARK)

So it's actually two glaciers (Hubbard and Sawyer), plus the inside passage.

Is the Sawyer Glacier thing a lie? Do I have to buy an expensive add-on in Juneau to see Sawyer?

I understand you have switched to a northbound sailing, but for general information, yes, you really have to purchase the add on ship tour, at about $200 pp to see the Sawyer Glaciers. The add on tour, also sees wildlife that the cruise ship misses, overall, it is a "must" for me, always, and grossly superior to any cruise ship transit. On average only about 25% of the cruise ships get within view of the south Sawyer, which is usually a long distance. By contrast, the small boat tours can get right up to the face for spectacular views. There are also significant seasonal issues as well , than most people just miss.

With Glacier Bay you do see at least 4 glaciers, if you plan on ONLY staying in your balcony all day, then you need a port side cabin for the narration to match up. This is a wildlife rich area, but to see some, it does require effort, and necessary is a good pair of wide angle binoculars. It is of benefit to be up looking early, I'm out 1/2 -1 hour prior to dawn. Park Rangers will board and escort the ship in.

If you aren't going to pay for Tracy Arm ship shore excursions, this is the choice to make.

With Hubbard glacier the views are forward. It's going to be a toss up how close you get depending on time. Last year, we essentially had 'no" view, since the ship turned back at least 10 miles out. I have been on ships that made it all the way up to the face. So having 2 glacier itinerary a big plus. You always see glaciers in Glacier Bay.
