poker on QM2?

naked on the balcony

Does anyone know if there are poker tables in the casino, or if there is usually a game in one of the lounges? I remember cruising on both the Golden and Crown Odyssey with my parents in the 80's, and there was usually a group everyday playing poker. Those bluehairs used to love it when I would coyly approach the table, and consequently loath me when I left with their money. Oh the joys of being a teenager...

On my last two crossings on the QE2 however, there didn't seem to be a game anywhere. Anyone know about poker on the QM2? We're leaving in less than two weeks, ante up!

Dear Naked,

It would make the crossing absolutely perfect for my husbnad if there were a regular poker game. He would commit to whatever time on each day. Alas, if there were not enough players, he would drag me along. There doesn't seem to be a way to spread the word though, beyond these boards. New cruise idea: have a chalkboard everyday where passengers can fill in a group activity time and place. We did that once on a riverboat cruise and took over the lectures that way :)

The Cunard QM2 Fact Sheet says "Spanning 6,000 sq ft the casino includes slot machines, blackjack, roulette, craps and poker".

Naked on the Balcony - if i had merely ventured naked onto the balcony during our crossing in April I would probably have found myself less various parts of my anatomy !! Have you ever been on a naturist cruise ?

So I'll be able to get my holiday fix and play blackjack!!! Only go to a casino whilst we are on board the ships. I can easily while away a couple of hours in the casino playing blackjack. Hopefully staying even!!!!!

We're just off the QM2 for the 7/17 crossing.

One night some guys walked through the casino soliciting players for a poker game.

They ended up attracting 5 players for a hold 'em tournament--$200 buy in.

Are you allowed to do that (go around soliciting that is)? Here in the UK you are not allowed to gamble in public for money. You can do it for matchsticks but actual money is not allowed to pass hands (I'm sure some English gamblers will put me right if I'm wrong but that was always what I thought)!!

Historically, in the US you can't gamble outside of a casino, and certainly not in public; but I believe the laws in several states have changed recently to allow limited "home" card games to exchange money. I think in International Waters however, there are probably very few gambling restrictions. So, with a British Ship, owned by an American corporation, in International Waters...I have no idea...perhaps the best thing to do is follow Bill Clinton's advice: Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

My wife and I, (so I guess I'm the male :D) were on the S.S. Navigator for a transatlantic crossing from Florida. Wow! what a great ship...the food and service were absolutely amazing.

Yes, I looked into it during our crossing and it has about 12 card tables each with 4 chairs with arms. It was empty when I went in at about noon !

It's directly below the bridge on deck 11 and has a good view of the bow.

Anyone know if there is card room (with square tables and chairs) on QM2?

(My in-laws may want to play some mah-jong if weather permits during the crossing.)

I found the square tables that are in the corridors on either side of the theater a lovely spot for playing cards and other games. The windows were perfect to watch the water and although there was some 'thru' traffic to the computer center, it wasn't disruptive at all. Sometimes I just sat there and read if there were empty tables.
