Question re Chair Hogs ...

Whenever I go into the pool to swim I always put my stuff on a chair. Is that chair hogging? I wouldn't want someone to take off my stuff and sit in my seat!

If you have not sat in the chair with your actual body in hours then yes it's chair hogging but I've never actually seen anybody move anyone's belongings other than a towel off a chair and I've never seen someone stay in the pool for hours without getting out to rest for at least a short time.

When you walk through at 7:00 am to go to breakfast on the Lido deck and there are dozens of loungers occupied only by towels but NOBODY is in the pool that pretty much tells the story.

That being said its all a total non issue to me since I don't like to swim in the pool or sunbath on the deck. I only swim in the actual ocean when on a cruise. I like to use the hot tubs but I don't use a lounger while in the tub. After I get out I find someplace to sit and get dry.

I think Carnival could help by maybe having some cubbies or lockers that people can put their stuff while swimming. Sometimes there is stuff on chairs because people just need a place to put their stuff.

I also think that Carnival should go around early morning and pick up all those towels that are holding chairs. They can see that no one is there and they know what is going on.

p.s. early morning is also a good time to pick up a souvenir towel

When i was on the Sensation last year the staff were really good about policing the Chogs. They would put a sticker on the chairs with towels and other belongings and thirty minutes later if noone was in the chair they would pack all of their stuff up kn a plastic bag and put it behind a counter. I saw them so this for several hours. Needless to say, the chogs were not too happy. It was very entertakning to watch people come back hours later only to find their stuff gone and others sitting in "their" chair. I did feel bad for the new people sitting in the chogs chair because they often were blamed for removing the belongings.

But its not a game! If you want to leave your chair with a towel and book and go for breakfast or whatever why should you give it up to another if you are coming back:confused:

If you were in the pool or Jacuzzi for an hour you shouldnt have to give up your seat by the pool so the same should apply to anyone leaving their chair for what ever reason.

People just want to turn up and expect to get a premium position chair within moments!

You need to share and then chair hop to get the ones you want or get there early enough to have a choice:)

Funny thing, the cruise line has a policy regarding chairs not being used for over 30 minutes. It doesn't matter if you are in the pool or hot tub or eating your 8th lunch of the day, if your behind isn't in the chair, it is not in use, period. I have zero qualms about removing personal articles from an unused chair. If people are incapable of abiding by the cruiseline policies that is their problem, not mine. I would NEVER expect my chair to remain "reserved" while I sat in the hot tub for an hour, that's ludicrous. Why people think getting there early and placing a towel on it bears some right of "claim" is childish. Do you also get up early and drape sweaters or towels over chairs in the buffet area or the theatre and expect your seat to be reserved for the day??? Then why on earth do you feel that it's ok for the pool area?

I've never seen someone stay in the pool for hours without getting out to rest for at least a short time.

You havent seen me then :)

I think if you are using the pool near a lounger with your stuff in it you should

be able to stay in the pool as long as you want as you need to get dry/covered asap when you exit the pool. I should be able to go for an hours dip without worrying about my stuff.

If you leave your stuff and leave the pool area for an hour thats a different story.

It also really narks me off when chogs dominate loungers near the pool when they never had the intention to swim. Leave those chairs for parents with kids and swimmers and find somewhere else to sunbathe.

We met a disgruntled father who has encountered chair hogs at poolside. He encouraged his children to splash and jump in as much as they liked. :)

I often go out out and smoke 3 cigs in a row on my balcony , then I grab a pair of blue jeans and sleeveless tee **** leave leave the room at 7am and deposit the shirt and jeans on a chair near the pool ( base ball hats just won't do to hold a chair all day).

I then leave go down to guest services , remove my auto tips ( I tip in cash) .

Head up to the mdr if open or buffet to eat massive amounts of bacon sans bacon police . I do this all while wearing my bath robe.

Pretty soon its elegant nite so I return to my chair get my sun bleached jeans and tee shirt from the chair and good to go !

Of course I will stop and take pics at all the stations , buy none but will take picture of the pics

On my first cruise on the Fascination 4 years ago we moved about 12-15 towels, books and bags from one chair to another, mixed em up good. Then we enjoyed ourselves in the pool and sun. 30 minutes to an hour later it was fun to watch people arriving and trying to figure out why their stuff was not where they "thought" it should be :D

If your belongings only are occupying a lounge chair pool side while you are on the pool for hours, then you are a Chog. What items do you need if you are in the pool for hours?

LOL!!! I don't think you missed a single pet peeve! Except I never knew anyone cared whether people ate lots of bacon I thought they only cared if you just poke at it causing it to brake it up into little pieces that they end up having to throw out.

Well, you may think that, but your thought would be wrong and you may not have a chair to sit in when you finally get out of the pool. ;)

Maybe saving an entire row of seats in the main theater. ;) Seen that one before and it was not pretty. :(

Its more the fact what I need and how my body reacts (medical condition called Raynauds...look it up) when I get out the pool. Carnival dont make any tables/lockers so I dont have another option.

I think its completely different to leave a towel when your out of the pool area than to leave a chair with a towel (that you are going to use) for when you get out the pool. I am in the pool area within sight of my stuff Im not playing bingo or in the casino for hours and hours.

Thats how we do it in Europe anyway. Throughout the Med in Inclusive resorts I have stayed in the chairs have there things removed after 1 and 1/2 hours on average by staff and this is consistent and well managed. This is a good time point in my opinion.

Thankfully my hubby saves it for me while hes reading his kindle.

Since this guy can swim 15 miles across the freezing Hudson river with Raynaud's. http://swimcrest.com/tag/swimming-with-raynauds-syndrome/ I don't see how a heated pool on a hot deck would be a challenge. Two, if your husband is present, then your stuff can stay with him if you are not using a chair for hours.

I cant understand why people are so obsessed with CHOGS:confused:

First come first served! Get up earlier and grab the chair of your preference or wait until one is free to use.

The obsession is the rudeness. If you are not going to use the chair then cut it loose for someone to use. Last cruse I got up early and sat in a clam shell on the serenity deck for my wife. I stayed there until she came. Funny thing is I had two people come and tell me I was in their spot they had saved. Easy answer was no since I had been there since six in the morning and no one was on deck at that time.

To keep from hogging a chair, I placed my stuff in a small pile on the wooden seating surrounding the serenity pool and we went up the steps to the hot tub. Not five minutes later, this cow came up and put my stuff on the ground and plopped down. Now mind you, there was plenty seating left on that wooded bench (even though some folks were laying out on it). I immediately went over and asked her why the hell she put my sh$t on the ground.... to which she tried to deny. She realized I was not playing and picked my stuff up and put it back and moved her load on down. Now it wasn't much stuff, just a towel and a small purse with my s&s card cause women's bathing suits don't have pockets lol. I don't do a lot of sunning cause I'm fair skinned....combine that with my temper and I tried to stay out of Serenity

1)I highly doubt the Legend's pools were heated last year (guessing its the same on most ships)

2) Saying 'this dude with your condition' did this is irrelevant. Its like saying 'hey look this dyslexic wrote a thesis so can every dyslexic'. It depends on the severity and the way it manifests. Not to mention that he has to put on socks/gloves as soon as he exits the water which is indeed my routine also.

3) Hubby might not always be about. Sometimes he takes his stuff and goes to nap in the cabin/goes for a walk.

I have a dumb question. Since we have to pay for any towel

unaccounted for, is anyone afraid someone will take their Towell? I have to check towels out with my card and it stays on my account until I return it. Am I missing something here?

I have no problem removing someone's things:)

I just place them on one of the other loungers. No one has ever said anything to me because either they knew they were wrong or because they did not come back the entire time I used the lounger.

Let me get this right! You remove peoples belongings from a lounger and put them on another lounger:confused:

Why dont you just not use the lounger that you put the other persons items on if its not being used:confused:

And people talk about the rudeness of CHOGING

Assuming your comments were not tongue-in-cheek...

My reasons for avoiding the pool area are different from yours, but wow -- it is hard to imagine that lying by the pool while on vacation would be so stressful. It's a shame! It sounds a little like the stress levels are similar to those engendered by commuting in traffic!

(I guess after being on CC for years I would have figured out that some cruises do have a serious tendency to be confrontational!)

Nope, not tongue in cheek at all, nor stressful. I am avoiding stress by not interacting with the ignorant fools who are so inconsiderate to lay claim to five or six chairs in a row by the pool at 7 am, and then don't come to claim them for hours or ever, just in case they 'might' want to sit at the pool.

The irony is that in most cases there would be plenty of chairs, even at the prime space around the pool, if people used them as they wished, and then moved on, allowing others to use them as well. I am one of the few who spend hours in my chair on a cruise, and I can tell you that the chairs around me that are not hogged but used generally turn over a couple of times an hour.

On my next cruise you'll find me on the rear deck, or up on a higher deck away from the pool, where it is significantly less noisy, and most definitely lacking in stress! :)

No you are not:) A good old British saying "All Mouth And No Trousers" is what comes out of CHOG threads, most CHOG haters would be quivering at the knees if they really removed other peoples towels and belongings! Why? because most CHOGS want a primo spot by the pool to tan their well shaped well looked after healthy muscular bodies while others are stuffing their face in the buffet most of the tme:D:D:D Do the Math;)
