Rental vehicles in Rarotonga on Sundays

Hi.

 

I've heard that renting a car on Sundays is next to impossible in the Cook Islands since a Cook Island Driver's License is required and the office is closed on Sunday to get one.

 

We are on the TP 9/21 and therefore will be in Rarotonga on a Sunday. I've written to a few agencies over there, but haven't heard back from them. Anyone ever get a rental on a Sunday?

 

Also heard that most everything is closed on Sundays? Is this stores and tours? Just wondering how to get around and do some shopping on Sundays.

 

We are hoping to go to Muri Beach, and do some snorkling near the fruit stand. Is a car needed to get to these places? Also heard the buses don't run on Sundays.

 

Any help/knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
