What is "booking a guarantee?"

Recommended Posts

Booking a guarantee says that you'll be guaranteed that catagory or higher. It's can be cheaper since they can put you anywhere on the ship. Say you want a 4A or better, you'll pay for a 4A guarantee, but won't know your room until you get your docs. or when u arrive.

You can never get lower than you book. If you want a balcony, you'll book say a catagory 8A...or whatever catagory you at least want......

If you know the room and floor that you want, you can book that specific cabin if it's available. Then you know where you'll be. If you don't care, then book a guarantee and you can get upgraded.

It's NOT guaranteed you will be upgrader higher than u booked IF you book a guarantee. Does that make sense. If you want at least a 4A and book it, then you could get that or higher. But many times you get better than you booked.

We've done it both ways. So you know if you book a guaranteed balcony room, that's what you'll get or better. You won't be given an inside room.

A while back we booked a room with just a window. Decided we'd just pay the extra and get the balcony since we've never had one. I called to change it and they said we were upgraded free of charge! :D Now that doesn't always happen. But we've been spoiled ever since and will only cruise with a balcony.

Enjoy!

There is a difference between a "guarantee" room and a "guaranteed" room. Usually people are referring to the same thing, which is what bigsky has described - that is, not booking a specific room. If you do book a specific room then that could be called your guaranteed cabin. Gotta be careful how you referred to it.

Did your travel agent ask you what room you wanted?
