love_travel Posted July 30, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 30, 2005 This will be our first time to carribean, can anyone suggest a good route for me please. Which part of carrribean is better, east or south? Any other suggestion are greatly appreciated.
voyageur Posted July 30, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 30, 2005 If this is your first cruise in the Caribbean, then either would be great! Personally I am a fan of the south only because I like it really hot, and I travel in the winter... so I think that I'm more guaranteed hot weather in the south. I love islands in both itineraries. My favourites are Aruba, St Maarten & Barbados. But again, they're both great... I guess you should consider what excursions are available on both, and see which ones suit you better. CaptData Posted July 30, 2005 #3 Share Posted July 30, 2005 It also depends when you sail. As above in winter go south.
montgomeryfamily Posted August 7, 2005 #4 Share Posted August 7, 2005 Both are great itineraries. It does depend a lot on what you are looking for in terms of ships, length of cruise, weather/time of year, and shore excursions. For example, Southern Caribbean is usually either ten days leaving from Florida. To get a 7 day trip you usually have to leave from San Juan. Eastern Caribbean often is a 7 day trip leaving from Florida. Perhaps we might be able to help more if you could give more info about what you are looking for. Square Posted August 10, 2005 #5 Share Posted August 10, 2005 My first cruise (a couple of years ago) I went on Western Carribean and had a great time. This year I am going on an Eastern Carribean and am just as excited. I don't know if you can really go wrong. If you look at some ports and decide you want to see some particular islands...then find a cruise that goes that way. I think you'll have a blast regardless, then want to see what the other direction offers you next time you can go on a cruise.
98Charlie Posted August 11, 2005 #6 Share Posted August 11, 2005 I agree that you will have a great time with either cruise. There really is such a variety in both areas that it is difficult for anyone to pick for you. For every port of call there will be cruisers who love it and others who couldn't care less if they ever go there. For us, we would take the longer cruise available for either route. We like sea days and avoid cruises that are to port intesive. 4 ports on a 7 night is great. Hope this helps a bit, Charlie
