Shopping and beach?

My wife and I are planning a cruise on the Carnival Valor, and thought we would use St Thomas as a beach day/Shopping day. Any recommendations of a beach with shops near by? Any near the port or is a taxi ride necessary?

There is decent souvenir shopping in St. Thomas. However, I didn't think the quality of jewelry was as good as on other islands (St. Maarten).

You need to first figure out what port you will be at. Havensight is closest to town and has a large shopping area. Crown bay is being built up but you would want to take a taxi to town...it's not really safe to walk. Taxis are large open aired vehicles. They are cheap and plentiful. Try to get downtown if it's your first trip.

There is shopping in town and Havensight Mall. The Valor usually docks at Havensight. There is no beach within walking distance. The closest is Morning Star, then Bolongo.
