Carnival Conquest transition review -San Juan to Miami

 Share

Recommended Posts

We arrived in San Juan late Saturday, around midnight. We got a great hotel for $35.00per room on Priceline using our points. For the life of me I cant remember the name.

Our view in the morning was rather fabulous!

I think this hotel is the Sheraton Hotel and Casino.

Thank you but she already responded. I wasn't expecting her to be working on the holiday. We are all set for our tour in 2 weeks. I mentioned your review and that I would like one similar to what she provided to your family. :D

Wonderful! You will have a great day!

We were also on this cruise, its funny how two families can see completely different "stuff" in ports. But then we had a 10yo boy with us. :)

I will always remember this cruise has having the most amazing sunsets.

Love your pictures!

Thank-You! We tried to keep everything nice and easy but we were still pretty worn out by the end of the day. I swear we were in bed by 9 most nights! You are right about the sunsets best ones yet!

Great pictures.......memories to treasure forever.....

It's great to hear how well Carnival catered to King James. So many times we only hear the negatives....

They really really really did. We only had one bad experience the entire trip. In all honestly it was just someone having a bad day. One morning while dad was being wheeled down to the port is attendant became very annoyed with the buckets and cleaning carts in the hallway. She started screaming at one of the stewarts and kicked one of the cleaning buckets. She was in no way directing this at dad but he cant see or hear very well and became scared. I took the wheel chair from her and took dad off the boat. The room stewart must have said something to management because she was crying in the office when I went back to talk to her. Carnival was ready to to step in with no questions asked. I talked to her and explained how scary it is to depend on someone that has no control over thier emotions. That it takes a lot of trust to have someone do something for you that you have done all your life on your own. That if we dont take the time to explain what we are doing and why the world becomes a scary place. She just broke up with her boyfriend and truly was sorry. She came back down to the gangway and apologized to dad and sent flowers to his room. She was a good girl so we refused to give a formal statement, so she wouldnt get in any trouble. We simply explained that it was a miscommunicaton. Dad gave the poor room stewart a 50 because he looked pretty scared when she was yelling too! That was our only bad experience.

Roseau Dominica....

Since dad was not feeling well we cancelled our excursion for the day and DH and I just went and found someone to take us around fot a bit. There are a lot of people offering different tours as soon as you step throu the gates. Here are some port views we took while enjoying our morning coffee on the Lido.

We found a gentleman that was taking a few elderly folks on a quick tour. They seemed worried so we asked if we could join them. They were all very sweet and DH spent the rest of the tour helping them in and out of the van, what a guy! I am a lucky girl!

Thoughts on Dominica....We would love to come back and swim in the waterfalls and maybe do the baths at Screw Spa. The island was lush and beautiful but the vendors were pushy. We got a great short tour for 15 dollars each. We were a little concerned to go with a stranger but our driver (he called himself Major) let me get a cop to vouch for him. The cop was super nice and wrote down his badge number and telephone number incase we has any issues. We had none and he was waiting when we returned and helped escort some of our older folks to the ship. I would do an excursion here if we ever returned. Coming up tomorrow....King James in St Marteen.

St Marteen....

This was our second time in St Marteen. The first time didn’t work out well for us. We had booked the Captain Morgan snorkel excursion, which were great but we visited the island the day after a hurricane. I actually had my first case of sea sickness while snorkeling, the water was so churned up that you could not see anything and the ocean just kept bobbing me up and down, the sail back was torture. Not the fault of the captain or his crew but ohhhh my! This time thinking of dad I decided on a island tour with a guide recommended by Sonny Liston, named Tony. Getting dad off the ship was a little troublesome. We only had one bad experience the entire trip. In all honestly it was just someone having a bad day. This morning while dad was being wheeled down to the port is attendant became very annoyed with the buckets and cleaning carts in the hallway. She started screaming at one of the stewards and kicked one of the cleaning buckets. She was in no way directing this at dad but he can’t see or hear very well and became scared. I took the wheel chair from her and took dad off the boat. The room Stewart must have said something to management because she was crying in the office when I went back to talk to her. Carnival was ready to step in with no questions asked. I talked to her and explained how scary it is to depend on someone that has no control over their emotions. That it takes a lot of trust to have someone do something for you that you have done all your life on your own. That if we don’t take the time to explain what we are doing and why the world becomes a scary place. She just broke up with her boyfriend and truly was sorry. She came back down to the gangway and apologized to dad and sent flowers to his room. She was a good girl so we refused to give a formal statement, so she wouldn’t get in any trouble. We simply explained that it was a miscommunication. Dad gave the poor room steward a 50 because he looked pretty scared when she was yelling too! That was our only bad experience.

So finally after all the drama I get everyone at our prearranged meeting place and no Tony. Other guides knew of him and called numerous times and an hour later no Tony. I walked over to the taxi stand and finally arranged a short island tour with them. Our diver was very sweet but so boring; I fell asleep twice on the drive! We still make fun as we are driving around back at home, there is a house, there is another house, I built that house! I swear we saw every house on the island!

After an hour of torture we stopped at Moho beach for lunch at the Sunset Bar. We didn’t get to enjoy watching the planes come in as we were too early and didn’t stay long enough.

Halfway thru lunch who showed up but the elusive Tony!! He said I gave him the wrong date (I didn’t ) and he received no calls from the other tour guides (he did) and offered to take over out tour for free? I passed our guide wasn’t the best but he was honest and doing his best. So we said a final goodbye to Tony and headed to Orient Beach.

Was this the perfect day? No. However we were all together on a beautiful island ( with a lot of houses!) and we were blessed with the most amazing sunset. I in no way thought that any of the issues we faced this day ruined our vacation or even our day.

QUOTE]

It's possible dad is picking the pictures as we go. We had a couple of beautiful sunsets so I may not have organized them right. Sorry for the confusion, I am trying.

Enjoying your review so far. I was on Conquest before your sailing for the New Orleans to San Juan leg of Conquest's repositioning. Going to Dominica in November for the Splendor repo cruise from San Juan to Miami. Got an idea for an excursion from your review. :)
