MSC Club Points

Keep track of your onboard spend (especially on the penultimate day), don't forget service charge counts (though NOT PREPAID) as onboard spend, as do any preordered drinks packages, excursions etc (but NOT PREPAID), so that if you are close to a multiple of €200/$200 you ensure you trigger that point with a small item of spend and so get that additional point on you MSC Club Account.

It would be silly to have a final spend of €389 and get 1 point when spending €11 extra ( a couple of bars of chocolate etc) to give a total of €400 gives you 2 points.

These are the current benefits (please ignore the red circles/elipses as they were used in another post to show who gets priority boarding. Only black card holders now, it used to be any club member back in the early days)

How do points and nights equate to the different levels?

Classic---> 1-21 points

Silver---> 22-42 points

Gold---> 43-99 points

Black---> 100+ points

each night spent onboard = 1 point

every $200.00 spent onboard = 1 point

THe only way I have found so far is to ask the MSC info point on board

they can produce you a print out like this

Before our first, three day cruise on Divina in May, we had signed up for the MSC Club prior to our sailing. We received our MSC Club membership number as well as our 5% discounts on all of our future sailings after that first cruise. We haven't received our cards yet but were told they usually take 6 to 8 weeks. I do wish there was a way to access your points though, just to be sure they are accurate. I guess for now I will hang onto our onboard spending receipts just in case.

You should be able to log on to your local MSC CLub web site and with just your membership number have access. You will have to create an account first. by registering and threre you can find your total..

It's a good idea to have the final invoice from the cruise which shows all your on board spend to prove that you have earned the points

Unfortunately Skier,,The US site only allows me to view my reservations and preferences and that's about it. There's no area to enter my MSC Club membership number. Looks like they still have some work to do on their website.:confused:

Ah!! You have to know your way round the MSC Club web site

Go to this link

http://www.msccruisesusa.com/us_en/MSC-Club/Overview.aspx

And press the "login to My MSC" as shown by the red arrow and you get this screen, here you can either create your account or login if you already have one.

Nope :(

Well, that stinks. :p We always have a big onboard account, because of extra food & beverages. Our last cruise would have put us a couple points shy of silver on that cruise alone, if it were on MSC. With YC, we shouldn't need to pay a lot extra for better food & definitely wouldn't spend nearly as much on beverages, so we would miss out on a lot of potential points. Oh well, with MSC only having one ship in the US, we wouldn't sail on them often enough to worry much about a loyalty program anyway.

Even though we are in the Yacht Club we'll still manage to have a $2k+ tab at the end of the cruise. Between shore excursions, spa packages, champagne packages, and some form of Allegrissimo, we'll be close to that number this coming August.

Thanks for your replies, will apply once been on the 1st cruise (Fantasia) for 3 days.

Just noticed that in the 2015/16 brochure downloadable from the MSC site it states under the terms and conditions that you can apply to be a Club member if you have been on at least 1 cruise or have a cruise booked.

We applied before our first 3 day cruise this past May. We received the points from that sailing, 2 for the nights at sea,,and 2 for the $400.00 we spent onboard.:D

Yes, in the UK you can't join before you've taken the first cruise. You will be able to join onboard at the MSC Club Info point.

Keep your final onboard account. I've never known them to forget to add points for the nights I've spent onboard (they even added them for a cruise I missed due to volcanic ash!) but they occasionally don't get around to crediting points for onboard spend, so you need to check that.

We are black members, and at the lunch with the officers on our cruise last week, were told that a new upper level would be added in the near future ! No indication of the points number was given.

I've also heard that too, it has been rumoured for a few months now. I've got masses of point so I'm hoping I'll automatically qualify. I do however they don't use it as an excuse to downgrade the perks further on the other categories. I do suspect it is inevitable as more and more people are at the higher levels.

All Aboard? reported "big changes coming to the MSC Club" from his discussions with the hotel manager on his last MSC cruise - maybe 6 months ago.

I can understand MSC changing their perks to fall more into line with other cruise lines, e.g. offering a daily venue for free drinks at the top tier(s) and removing or certainly reducing the discounts on the cost of the cruise. How to transition from one system to another without offending you past, loyal customers may be the issue causing the delay.

Good points Tim!

Ammo, Skier, great info!

MSC needs to tread carefully!

A few years back RCL (we are Diamond +, casino club members with RCL) changed a few of their higher level Crown and Anchor perks, and it cost them for awhile!

MSC's club giving percentages off future cruises is about the current norm for cruise lines in the 'North American mkt.' in our opinion! Changing that would be a mistake! RCL has savings certificates giving about 20% off future cruises in the loyalty club, with higher members getting the most off! RCL is offering 2x pts. for singles in a double cabin!

We do like your suggestion Tim, about a free drink venue for higher level members, we have that on RCL (a daily party in the Diamond lounge, and free drinks all day in the Casino), and it does affect our decision making when purchasing a cruise!

What MSC does give is a way to move up faster in their club with the extra pts. for on board spending. For some big spenders on a 1 week cruise, they can earn pts. equaling 2 cruises.:) We earned 8 extra points on our 2 week back to back which was like getting a third week of points free! A plus!

But the negative in the current program is big spenders buying the yacht club cabins are getting the same pts. as those buying an inside cabin for thousands less, this is where MSC in our opinion might change their club, giving extra pts. to yacht club buyers much like the other lines give for higher priced 'suite purchases'!

But as we all know, whenever changes to loyalty club programs come, it usually means everyone gets less to supplement the perks for the new higher class!:mad:

Can't wait to read those forum threads!:eek:

Hi American Bear,

I know this wanders into the off-topic and totally out-of-forum category, but I thought RCI had given up their 'savings certificates'. The UK site says they are now incorporated into the fare but i can't see any difference. I have a couple of future cruise vouchers (i.e. deposits paid plus obc) for both RCI and her Celebrity sister in the drawer, longing to be used. An extra 20% off would be enough to make me book. Gee, I hate the summers - I need to escape :(.

Yes doesn't matter which way you book, you can still earn points for nights onboard and onboard spend. You can join on the ship or online. Do keep an eye on your point when you get back. I've never had problems getting the points credited for the nights I've been onboard but sometimes had to email them to get onboard ends credited. Cards often take weeks to turn up, but the main thing is the MSC Club membership number. You can't join until you're onboard or have completed your first cruise.

Hi Marie, i have achieved the gold status with my last cruise. I have not received a gold card, but just a paper with a picture of the gold card. They tell me to print it and show it onboard. Do you have any idea why is this so?

Tim, we as casino club members get our RCL cruises through the casino club for the last 5 years for only the cost of taxes and port fees, so I was a little surprised by what you said, so I looked at our online account and saw that in April, RCL ended the certificate program!

I called RCL C&A and asked them what cruises were on the new C&A Exclusive Rate Program, how much you could save, and the RCL agent said they didn't have a list:eek:, so basically they are advertising a program you have no way to find out what you can save on which ships!:eek:

So we experimented, and the RCL agent and brought up a cruise with an RCL exclusive rate cruise, and I went through a TA site I've used in the past, and the TA site was 10% less!:eek:

Tim, you are right, there is no savings so far as we see!:)

Hi Ivi,

I would complain immediately. I did pre-emptively on the basis that others were saying they didn't receive their gold pin. Result - I received two identical gold cards plus a gold pin!

Best of luck.

Most cruise lines offer more points for the higher price cabins. I'm surprised MSC doesn't.

If we book YC, it would be for the upgraded food in the dedicated restaurant & alcohol being provided inside that area. If we're going to feel that we need to pay for additional food to get high quality & need to purchase much alcohol, we'll go with a balcony & pay as we go. We don't go to many shows, clubs, etc., so we shouldn't have to purchase a lot of alcohol. The only question is whether or not we'll have to purchase bottles of wine for our balcony, if we're in YC.

I agree.

I used the Skipper Tim method of acquiring a Gold Card and it works.

Yeah they did that with my black card. Got a pare card right Way, the real one followed several weeks or might even have been a month or so later. In that case I was due to cruise again before they could get the real version to me and wanted me to get the benefits of the category right away.
