syr101 Posted April 27, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 27, 2014 Looking to rent a car for the days we are at port. Have a few questions. What are the can't misses in Maui. We like the outdoors. If we drove to the other side of the island and wan to make it to the OLL, what times does the OLL start and is there enough to this. Any adventure Itinerary would be appreciated. UPGrandma Posted April 27, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2014 If you like to zip line, check out Flyin Hawaiian Zipline. Their 7 lines are great. First line is 1/2 mile, the last is 3/4 of a mile. Lots of pictures on their website.
cb at sea Posted April 28, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 28, 2014 You can drive almost anywhere on the island in a day....Maui is easy driving!
dcikon2 Posted April 28, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 28, 2014 We did zip lining on Haleakala. We also saw a show in Lahaina. I must say that I was unimpressed with a beach that we visited. It had a quick drop off and the wind was pretty strong.
PCWalton1 Posted April 28, 2014 #5 Share Posted April 28, 2014 The road to Hana would tie up your hold day so I will not recommend that though it is amazing. But you might consider just the start of it and stopping in Paia town. Nice little wind surging town with lots of quirky shops. Good food too (Paia Fish Market and Ono Gelato). Iao valley is also a beautiful place to go as well. Right in Lahaina is the large banyon tree where there is usually a craft fair when the ships are in. nice place to stroll. beeandkmon Posted May 9, 2014 #7 Share Posted May 9, 2014 If you want an adventure book a snorkle trip with redline rafting company. It is an ADVENTURE and was one of our best days in Hawaii. The snorkling was awesome, the boat uncrowded, and the ride amazing. They have great Tripadvisor reviews and we had a great time.
Cruise life Posted May 9, 2014 #8 Share Posted May 9, 2014 Iao Valley is very close to Kahului and is incredibly beautiful with paths and a river and gardens. Then there are those mountains that pictures can't do justice showing their grandeur. The history of the place is also something to be discovered. I am so glad we had a rental car and could stop and sit here, simply awe-inspiring and one of Hawaii's must sees. We backtracked toward the ship and drove past the town toward Hana that PP mentioned about 20 more miles and stopped to watch the wind surfers and view the sea turtles on the beach at the lookout there. Ample parking and portables, views. Not sure I would suggest going in the water there due to strong currents. Continue on to the Garden of Eden Arboretum and Botanical Gardens for a hike. This will be about an hour at least, but so worth it. Take water, you will be going up and down hills. There is a lookout with a faded sign noting the area was used in one of the Jurassic Park movies, stunning. Also you will see some amazing trees, plants and be able to feed some ducks and other waterfowl by their pond. We missed the art gallery there, but did have some great fish tacos at the food truck on site. Worth the entrance fee. We turned around and headed back down thru town at this point, had enough of the one-lane bridges and locals flying past. The drive across the island was easy. Make a bathroom stop somewhere near town as there are not a lot of places on the short 30 mile or so drive over to Lahaina. We drove thru Lahaina and went straight to the beach near Black Rock. This was amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed the cliff diver and the Sheraton's luau. I can't address parking and driving back after a luau as we spent the night on the beach at KBH (recommend). I have read others drove back, but we wanted to get straight to bed considering it was actually 3am EST by the time the luau ended and we were traveling with kids, although I never adjusted fully to the 6 hour time change myself. The next day we took a PWF tour and saw a mother, baby and escort playing. It was very windy, but their large catamaran handled it well and we enjoyed this whale watching trip at the end of whale season. We snorkeled around Black Rock as well, but the currents were strong that day and we had better water in Kona. I agree taking some kind of boat sight-seeing or snorkeling tour puts you right in the middle of the marine action and will be a memorable time, although hiking for us was also a fascinating adventure in the coastal mountains. You really can't go wrong; the island is gorgeous. Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

dcikon2 Posted May 10, 2014 #10 Share Posted May 10, 2014 I agree with the previous posts about visiting Ioa Valley. It is near the pier. I loved Haleakala.

Enjoy the OOL, we have done it before and have it booked again this coming September. :) I was curious if anyone has done Feast At Lele? In April 2016 we will be doing an overnight again in Lahaina and love a beach dinner and show. But we were looking to do something other than OLL again and Feast At Lele is run by the same people. It also looks to be close enough that we can park the car and walk. On Tripadvisor it has great overall reviews, but was just wondering if anyone on here has gone?
