jfried8 Posted April 29, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 29, 2014 We will be on the breakaway in August to Bermuda from new York. We have an aft balcony on deck 9. Should we do sail Away from the balcony or go to the top deck? Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk
Ilovesailing Posted April 29, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 29, 2014 Your balcony is going to be much less crowded. You will be able to get just as good a pic of Statue of Liberty from balcony same with bridge.
scaaty Posted April 29, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 29, 2014 We love staying on our aft balcony for sail away. Less crowded, less wind, covered just in case of rain! Great pics also without someone jostling for the same spot! We also make sure we have a bottle of wine and some snacks and just sit back and enjoy :D
grobma Posted April 30, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 30, 2014 One of my favorite reasons for having an aft balcony (on deck 9 as well) was the sailaway, watching NYC recede from view. Everyone with an aft balcony watched from their cabins. It was like a shared party as we all ended up waving at and chatting with each other over dividers and between decks. Mom2B&Z Posted April 30, 2014 #5 Share Posted April 30, 2014 Another vote for the aft balcony. It's out of the wind, away from the crowds and has a superb view. Enjoy! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
kylenyc Posted April 30, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 30, 2014 I'd prefer to watch the approach to the landmarks from the sundeck forward or Spice H2O which has access to both port and starboard... In particular watching the approach to the Verrazano Narrows Bridge and watching the ship go under it.
meatball_nyc Posted April 30, 2014 #7 Share Posted April 30, 2014 Top deck vote here. Views of the skyline unparalleled. Port side for world trade. Starboard side for Statue of Liberty. VZ bridge top side for sure. Tralfie Posted April 30, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 30, 2014 I had an aft balcony on Breakaway in March. The infamous "Gambee Balcony", actually (named after his awesome review of the Breakaway). I wasn't sure where I wanted to do sailaway, but wound up doing it on my balcony. SO glad I did. As it turned out, several other Cruise Critic members were in balconies above, below and beside me... we were chatting, having a great time. And as a lover of the wake, there's nothing like it! cpcanuck Posted May 1, 2014 #9 Share Posted May 1, 2014 (edited) Hmmm...maybe I will need to try both ways! Oh yeah! I'm doing a b2b from NY next summer - Maybe I will do the topside view on the first leg of the trip and then try it on the second leg going south from my aft balcony! :D I'll let you know how it goes! Wheee! Now if only I was sailing soon... Edited May 1, 2014 by cpcanuck
