Breakaway - Bringing Beverages

Recommended Posts

Forgive me, I know this has been posted. If I want to bring a 12 pk of Pepsi or water, can iI check it or do I have to bring it through security as a carry on?

Also, how are they at the NYC port with alcohol? I remember it was a breeze to get by in Barcelona because of where duty free was.

You can check the beverages. Just stick a luggage tag on it. Once we had a can missing from ours, but no other problems. Luggage goes through bottle scanner, so liquor bottle will show up, and you will be sent to the naughty room. We get drink cards from casino so we never needed too, but if you do a search you will find many inventive ways to get liquor aboard.

Safe sailing

Can I put the soda and water in a suitcase and check it? Or does it have to be just sticking a luggage tag on the case of soda itself (so they can see it)

You can. However, since the soda and water will show up when they're scanned, they may appear to be containers of alcohol. That would prompt the screeners to set aside your suitcase and send it on to the "naughty room" where you will have to waste time lining up and picking up your bag.

Yes, that is why I was asking. I don't want any hassle but I am taking the train from NJ and certainly can't carry a case of soda and a case of water plus a suitcase. If I could put it in a suitcase that rolls, I'd be good to go.

We have also put in duffle bag and checked it with luggage tag. No problems (no naughty room) but from being tossed ...one can opened. I recommend putting it in plastic bag, then into suitcase with luggage tag.

Safe sailing
