Back from Getaway yesterday (5/3); VERY extensive review :)

You have to insert a key card to use the power while in the room; while any non-Norwegian key card will do, there's a little light on the exterior of the door that shows if you're using the power or not--and that's how the steward knows when to clean your room. I believe the two buttons near the door as you exit the room activate different lights so the room steward knows when to make up your room.

Thanks for a great review! I noticed you said you could really feel the ship moving, did you have bad weather?

Nope - perfect weather the whole time, but we could really feel the movement. Lots of other passengers commented on it as well.

There are three lights above the doors - one is a white/bluish light that shows the steward whether you are in the room, as demonstrated by the key card using the electricity. There is also a green light (if you push the make up room button) or the red light (if you push the do not disturb button).

But we specifically asked the steward about it, and he said stewards absolutely hate it when people just leave a key in there indefinitely.

Your review was fun to read. My favorite staement--"Beringer White Zinfandel was on the list. Seriously? If I want to drink $5-a-bottle jolly rancher wine, I'd just get a bottle of Boone's Farm. " I am always making wise crack comments about the wine on the ship but yours is perfect.:D

is the BAGS program you are referring to the same as "Luggage Direct"? When I booked my Sept 2014 Getaway I was told that the Luggage Direct program was available for Miami/Delta airlines and would receive the forms onboard to have my luggage sent direct from Getaway to MIA to ATL so I wouldn't have to disembark with luggage. Is that not the case???

Thank you for your great review. I will have to re-consider the Vibe experience if the passes are so hard to get.

They had Let it Ride, Pai Gow Poker, Texas Hold Em, 3 Card Poker....and maybe a few others. We didn't spend too much time on the tables, to be honest.

There's also a separate high roller room that we only ever saw one person in the whole cruise, no idea what games they are doing in there.

Thanks for all the excellent information!

Did you notice what the latest time you could leave on the last day was? Our noonish flight is now a 325 pm flight....

Thanks for the great review

They want most people gone by 9:00am.

Was thinking about getting a cabana for our Breakaway cruise, but besides being very fair skinned, I'm prone to heat exhaustion. After reading about both your narrow cross across the finish line to acquire the cabana & the lack of air flow, I'm reconsidering. Do the double loungers offer any umbrella options to stay out of the sun? If so, $79 plus umbrella shade plus breeze will equal a happier and richer me :D

Yeah, I think it's the same. (Luggage Direct is Holland Cruise Line; BAGS is Norwegian). Generally, it is available out of the port of Miami for specific airlines, but apparently the port decides on a ship by ship basis who gets to participate - the Getaway does not. It was very inconvenient.

Yes, there is an umbrella in Vibe for every two loungers, so if you're just looking for some shade, you'll be fine without a cabana.

Thanks so much for that! So if you can get an umbrella and double lounger for 1/3 the price, what's the added draw or perk of the cabana?

We have left the ship as late as 10:15 with no problem on breakaway. And for the new passengers getting on, housekeeping has the rooms ready as you get on--u don't have to carry your bags around. Housekeeping gave a speech about that being it's new commitment to passengers boarding

Plus you can move the umbrellas around to wherever u want them. The jacuzzi is also covered

Thanks for all the excellent information!

On breakaway there were sandwiches and snacks available in the casino. They had a small set up in one of the corners. I guess anything to keep people from leaving.

Well, I agree, if I was doing it over, I wouldn't get the cabana.

But the cabana gives you vibe access for 2 people, plus $100 OBC. So you're really only paying $40 more for the cabana than you would for two passes.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who had to run for a Vibe pass even though we entered the terminal at 9:00am. NCL really needs to come up with a better system of getting them

Really bummed to hear about the night life because me and a bunch of my buddies are going on a cruise in July and we are younger guys (early 20's) so I was really looking forward to hearing about the nightlife. Maybe it was just the time of the year.... I sure hope so. What really upset me was Bliss being empty :( Thank you so much for that great review

With Bliss you got to make it a party! The problem is when you go there and peak in and no one is dancing folks dont stay.

So in order to make Bliss happening on your cruise you and your friends are going to have to get the party started. Then they will come.

Don't wait for 'somebody' else to get it going or you will be dissappointed. Unfortunately it is like that due to the layout. my only pet peeve with the Getaway

Im basically going to have to do the a same thing when i cruise in December. but i have no problem getting on the dance floor by myself and creating my own fun.:D

If the DJ is not playing what you want to hear...request something else. Trust me he will play it!

Hi:

Have been reading that there are 2 or 1 or no (varies by review/post) formal nights of the Getaway-now its called Norwegian night out? Anyway, we are celebrating our 25th anniversary and would like to dress up for dinner etc on that night. Can you tell me which day of the cruise it was?

Thanks,

Kathy

Kathy -

NCL is known for not having any particular nights that are considered "Formal Nights". However, my recommendations to you are as follows:

1 - Plan on making whatever night you want to be formal, formal. (That's what we always do!) :D

2 - Look through some Google images of Freestyle Dailies that previous cruisers have uploaded. See if you can find anything that talks about this "Norwegian Night Out".

Hope you find the information you are looking for!
