Best Way To Get To St. John

Recommended Posts

What is the best way to get from St. Thomas to St. John? I have read that there's a ferry that leaves from somewhere near the pier and another that leaves from Red Hook. What is the advantage of taking a taxi to Red Hook to take that ferry? Cheaper? Quicker? More frequent?

The advantages of taking the ferry from Red Hook vs. Charlotte Amelie are:

1. Red Hook Ferry leaves earlier and more frequently, so you can get a "jump" on your day at St. John

2. Ferry ride is shorter, even when combined with the taxi drive to get to the ferry dock

Cost really isn't a factor, because it pretty much evens out when you add in the taxi rides.

What we have done the past couple of years is take the Ferry from Red Hook TO St. John, then take the Ferry back to Charloote Amelie for our return. Its a very scenic ride and you go right past the ships through the harbour.

Have a great trip!
